AIBU to ask for an edit button

Yanbu, bluebelle. I'm supporting your request. It doesn't have to be an "always active" edit facility, HQ. The comments section of the Times online (not the app, but the browser editions), for example, allows edits to posted comments for up to five minutes after the original is posted. This means that reading back over one's post, one has time to see typos that you previously missed, or to rephrase something.

I realise GN tech runs on a shoestring, but still..... You meed to catch up a bit.

Oh, and please tell Mumsnet that their Twitter gifs are really annoying. Most of them are naff in any case.

I m surprised there aren't more people wanting this maybe I was wrong I thought it would be everyone's ideal

My preview facility keeps freezing so the only way to send a post is to go back a page and forget it.

Bluebelle there are several people who have expressed a wish for this on previous threads. GNHQ have said in the past it's not feasable.

Why would it be feasible elsewhere (on every other site I go to) and not here? There must be something they can do to make it feasible, surely?

I know they might not want people editing out whole posts and leaving a blank or completely changing them. But as pps have said, if they could just give us 5 minutes or so to fix a typo or add a sentence, etc. that would be so good.

I often make mistakes and only realise after posting - it is infuriating to see a glaring error with no way of correcting it. The problem with proof reading your own scripts is that you tend to see what you meant to write without any typing errors.

The argument against editing is that if someone follows your post your edit could upset the context. Also being creatures of habit we are good at understanding messages with errors as the author intended so an EDIT button really would only allow some of us to avoid moments of embarrassment.

Yes it would nice to be able to edit but there are possible drawbacks and it candifficult to implement.

I see what you're saying Cinders but it doesn't deter any other forums I m on or have been on and I have also admined on four which all had edit buttons one was a five minute button which is fine the others were not time related I just find it very strange. That a forum like this wouldn't offer it it just seems normal practice for them all but this one
It's not just about spelling and proof reading I often remember something I wanted to say the second I ve pinged the button

I agree, having been on a variety of fora over the years (or is that forums?) I cannot remember another one which did not have the option to edit.

I havent been a member of gransnet for very long, but i was surprised too that there is no edit button, also a like button would be good ,instead of having to write a post agreeing with poster

Valerie, it means Am I being unreasonable. There is a list of acronyms, press the button at the top of the page. Sometimes I have found the list no help so have had to use Google, not au fait with text speak either!

I am not a long time member but the hoary old comment always turns up .EDIT BUTTON .

My comment re glyphosate was it kills weeds, and weeds require [killing] correcting.

I would also like to see a "quote" button. If you are referring to a post a page or two back then you either have to retype the post or others have to scroll back to find it. If there was a quote button that post would appear in your post together with your reply. Other forums have these options so why is not possible for GN techs to sort it (perhaps get more tech savvy techs? )

Can't you highlight, copy, and paste the bit you want to quote, sunseeker? Often it is only part of the post that you want to quote, the whole lot could make your reply very long.

And put " " around it to show that you are quoting.
