Please ,please, posters read your post and correct before pressing the send button.

That scourge of the Devil always wants to autocorrect.

Get thee behind me Satan.

Ilovecheese Sun 23-Apr-17 13:46:13

"Get thee behind me Satan" (and push me in!)

Penstemmon Sun 23-Apr-17 13:58:34

Yup! u r b u. Most posts are understandable. It is a forum correspondence not a formal correspondence.

Cherrytree59 Sun 23-Apr-17 14:07:54

Hands up
Guilty as charged
My apologises Penstemmon
I inadvertantly spelled your username wrong on another threadblush

Penstemmon Sun 23-Apr-17 14:19:58

I knew u meant me..so no problem! wink

mcem Sun 23-Apr-17 14:21:55

Basic courtesy to read through a post before sending. The odd typo or auto'correct' doesn't bother me much but some garbled and incoherent posts are very difficult to understand. The point of communicating is that your reader understands your post.

kittylester Sun 23-Apr-17 14:22:48

I think I should be banned! blush

Christinefrance Sun 23-Apr-17 14:42:41

Don't forget jollyg some posters are dyslexic, therefore things are not always as they should be. I am a pedant but restrict this to talking with others of the same ilk. Don't be too hard on people otherwise GN will be vanilla. smile

henetha Sun 23-Apr-17 14:45:01

Do we have to be perfect? We're only human.

ninathenana Sun 23-Apr-17 14:51:28

Why does it bother you so much jollyg ?

I agree with henetha and Christine makes a valid point too

phoenix Sun 23-Apr-17 15:08:09

Reminds me of something on "I'm sorry I haven't a clue"

Humph was talking about (I think) Barry Cryer, and was explaining that he was dyslexic (he isn't), and said of making mockery "it isn't furry, and it isn't clever, so get thee behind me Santa"!

shysal Sun 23-Apr-17 15:09:44

grin

Alima Sun 23-Apr-17 15:17:44

Yes you are. I find some of the typos on here to be very funny and anything inoffensive is worth a good laugh. Give me enough time to remember some of them and I will give you a list. The auto- correct feature has a lot to answer for!

Grannyknot Sun 23-Apr-17 15:39:15

Also, with people viewing their posts on tiny phone screens or tablets with hand cream streaked on the screen sometimes without putting their specs on ... mistakes will happen and/or autocorrect amendments will be overlooked.

Aiming for an error-free forum is a losing game grin

FarNorth Sun 23-Apr-17 16:36:50

Often, tho, there'll be a correction post just moments after the one with the mistake(s).
Clearly the person has read through their post straight after it has been irrevocably posted.
Why not just press the Preview button and read through then, before taking that final step?

merlotgran Sun 23-Apr-17 16:46:23

I used to preview my posts before sending but the page now seems to freeze on preview. I can sometimes retrieve it by going back to the previous page then going forward again IYSWIM but often the post is lost.

Can't be bothered to preview any more.

Anniebach Sun 23-Apr-17 16:46:58

I make errors often, so ignore me and save yourself stress

thatbags Sun 23-Apr-17 17:29:23

My immediate reaction after reading the OP was: Do stop moaning!

FarNorth Mon 24-Apr-17 07:44:05

That's definitely too much faff, merlot.

MawBroon Mon 24-Apr-17 07:52:36

As far as I am concerned typos (or surreal prediction) have a habit of hiding when I check through what I have written - and yes I (usually) preview- and then in the nanosecond before pressing "post message" they rush out of where they were hiding and resume their position or else half the words automatically translate themselves into Klingon. ?

ninathenana Mon 24-Apr-17 08:25:59

Maw grin
I know just what you mean.

Anniebach Mon 24-Apr-17 08:37:23

Perhaps we should have our posts checked by those who have sod else to do than find fault with spelling and grammer on other posts

vampirequeen Mon 24-Apr-17 09:07:17

I was educated at the time when it was decided that knowledge of punctuation and sentence structure (beyond the basics) wasn't necessary. So my grasp of colons, semi-colons, phrasing and the niceties gf grammar is somewhat limited. It was deemed to be more important to get your ideas down on paper...to let your imagination rule when writing stories and organise your discussion/arguments when writing non-fiction.

I still write that way so sorry if it offends anyone but it's the way I write and I'm too old to change now.

vampirequeen Mon 24-Apr-17 09:08:50

And I hate apostrophes esp. in it's/its.

Anniebach Mon 24-Apr-17 09:12:05

I didn't know pedantic meant nit picker
