New jacket for old

Basically, I have brought my partner a jacket from Ebay. It is one he really wants and it is an expensive jacket from a designer brand - £380 new. I got a worn (3 times) one from Ebay but it is a 'worn' look one so notsupposed to look new. I have taken it to the cleaners and that will spruce it up. Job done. My daughter says I cannot give him a second hand jacket - and frankly I feel bad now and it has spoilt my glee at paying £200 for the jacket of his dreams! What are your thoughts on this??

Say nowt about its history and he will love it! Good luck!

Shysal is right, its a gift given with love and that's what matters.

My thoughts are that he will love it. Firstly because you have bought something that will make him happy, and secondly, that it is a jacket he really wants. Surely your daughter wouldn't be a spoilsport, and hurt both him and your delight in getting a bargain.

When she said it, I actually felt a jolt. I never thought of it as a second hand jacket, just a bargain!

If it's a Barbour? It's a good buy. Take no notice of daughter.

It's only like buying proper vintage clothes - they're technically second or third-hand but who cares - it's the quality and design you're paying for. He'll love it! smile

I agree, and why tell him anyway, unless he actually asks?

I think he will love both the jacket and the thought you have put in to getting it for him. ( Probably be handy to remember that your daughter would prefer brand new stuff as a pressy!)

I am sure your daughter means well, but it is not her money to spend and as has been said, it is a lovely gift with a lot of thought behind it. I love second hand clothes and my kids would have gone naked without them! I also have a lot of things second hand - funnily enough, quite a bit has come from my daughter, who loves fashion and has been known to buy stuff, wear it twice and pass it on to old mum.
Dont think twice, he will love it!

Oh thank you for the support! I really appreciate it! I will give him the jacket with love x

If you gave your daughter a beautiful antique diamond ring that had been worn by a dozen people in its life, would she turn that down too? Ask her.

Coming from a family of second hand Rose's, I have never seen any problem with wearing second-hand clothes or giving someone something second hand, if it is something they want or will enjoy. Just before Christmas I bought a beautiful Jacques Vert coat online.

Most of the contents of our house was inherited or bought at auction and at one time DD used to boast that nothing in her living room had been bought new.

It is a question of personal taste, but buying everything new is a good way of getting poor quickly.

Second Hand, Used, Vintage...... it's the way to go !!
I love it.
Be Proud of your efforts. DD has a lot to learn smile

First if all don't tell him unless he has something against vintage (second hand etc) unfortunately my husband so I could never do that but we'll find you for spotting such a bargain .Hope he wears it in good health

I remember being young once and everyone called me "Cashmere Knickers" It had to be new and "real" Take no notice. Your husband is a very lucky man to have such a caring and innovative wife.

It's not secondhand, it's pre-loved wink. Your husband will love it, and you will have done something for the environment by buying a re-cycled item instead of subscribing to the damaging throw-away society by insisting on new, new, new (and paying over the odds for the 'privilege'). Be proud of yourself. Your daughter has some catching up to do to be as caring and environmentally aware as you smile

i think its wonderful you took the time to search for something he would love.
i used to spend days looking for just the right thing for my dh.
on a budget but was able to find things he thought were impossible to have
first thing came to mind was a guitar.
replica of one he played in 60s rock and roll band,

Agree with everyone else. Can't see any problem buying "pre loved". It will be loved again! Lucky OH for having thoughtful wife ?
