Lead story World at One, the whole of the Media Show and now the lead on PM

maryeliza54 Wed 11-Oct-17 17:21:11

for 19 minutes

Alima Wed 11-Oct-17 17:56:22

No you are not. Every time I look at the online news I see him. Who is he?

gillybob Wed 11-Oct-17 18:03:35

It seems like a repeat of Jimmy Saville to me. Everyone had their suspicions, plenty reported him yet he was allowed to get away with it for so long.

TerriBull Wed 11-Oct-17 18:10:51

Alima - A very influential Hollywood producer who launched the careers of many A listers and ruined others allegedly. He also produced many British films, Shakespeare in Love, The King's Speech.

Yes you are. Well it is on a lot but not to understand our slowly shifting culture would worry me. Men in position of power - and some young men seem to think that droit du seigneur still exists and they can do what they want with girls, women, boys and men because of their power.

If this moves that culture a little a granddaughter of ours may thank us one day.

I think JS was much much worse and worthy of all the reporting - I agree that it is similar in that everyone knew and kept quiet. 8 women received pay offs - it’s the prominence it’s being given that I’m annoyed about. Apparently he’s come to Europe to get therapy.

Anniebach Wed 11-Oct-17 18:29:30

Why all the fuss, we have all heard of the casting couch have we not . This cannot be compared with Saville

maryeliza54 Wed 11-Oct-17 18:42:40

It can be compared with JS in as much as years of unacceptable maybe illegal behaviour was known about by many people and covered up ~ the same mindset that protects famous men who exploit their positions of power

annsixty Wed 11-Oct-17 18:44:42

I agree that this is not like JS but any vulnerable youngster put in an uncomfortable situation to get on in life is to be deplored.

minesaprosecco Wed 11-Oct-17 18:45:25

Yes, we've all heard of the casting couch Annie and it's a pretty nasty couch.

Anniebach Wed 11-Oct-17 18:48:12

Yes it is a nasty couch but girls are willing to grit their teeth for a part in a film, sad but true .

Iam64 Wed 11-Oct-17 18:49:01

We may find it tedious and all a bit Hollywood but it raises the profile of the exploitation and abuse of young people, as well as once again reminding lecherous blokes that their behaviour isn't acceptable.
We need a culture change don't we.
It's interesting that the film industry is calling him out, belatedly. Sacked from his company etc.
Meanwhile the other (alleged) serial sex groper becomes Potus.

Anniebach Wed 11-Oct-17 18:56:38

He has apologised for his actions but is suing a newspaper for printing the story, work that one out n

minesaprosecco Wed 11-Oct-17 18:58:24

Not much of an apology then. Hypocritical as well as licentious.

maryeliza54 Wed 11-Oct-17 19:00:24

It’s the prominence that I find ridiculous - the first 20 minutes of PM? Really?

Anniebach Wed 11-Oct-17 19:06:08

I am sorry for what I have done but I will sue because I have been accused of doing what I apologised for but didn't do it

grin

GillT57 Wed 11-Oct-17 19:28:07

What I cannot understand is why his wife has 'stood by him'...(maybe because he is loaded). He has daughters, and if my husband was charged and admitted guilt of this sexual exploitation I would kick him out. How could anyone get back into bed beside a man knowing what he had forced other women to do? All of you who are saying that this is the way it is and always has been, well yes, I agree, but would you feel the same if it was your grandaughter or daughter, your son or grandson? This was not about sexual favours for getting parts, it was sexual favours to stop being blacklisted. Disgusting. Needs to be dealt with and those idiots who supported Roman Polanski need their heads examined.

annsixty Wed 11-Oct-17 19:31:57

I am far more exercised by the current investigation into Cyril Smith.
The most horrendous cover up by the establishment for many a long year.

Grandma70s Wed 11-Oct-17 19:36:27

I don’t know why anybody’s surprised. The media are going on as if they’ve never heard of such a thing. It’s as old as the hills.

Aa change in culture would certainly be welcome, and it does look as if it’s happening. The women who mostly went along with it at the time are now realising how demeaning it was.

maryeliza54 Wed 11-Oct-17 19:36:43

Exactly ann

maryeliza54 Wed 11-Oct-17 19:38:47

I don’t want to get into a debate about hierarchies of abuse but vulnerable children in the care of the la being abused by CS compared with the HW situation

GracesGranMK2 Wed 11-Oct-17 19:50:17

Why all the fuss, we have all heard of the casting couch have we not . This cannot be compared with Saville

Please tell me where a single victim of either will find it incomparable? For heavens sake these are people manipulated by a culture that needs to be changed and changed quickly.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 11-Oct-17 19:52:44

It’s the prominence that I find ridiculous - the first 20 minutes of PM? Really?

So what does take precedence over possible and recorded rapes and sexual attacks on probably as big a scale as Saville? Has the Queen died?

GracesGranMK2 Wed 11-Oct-17 19:53:37

Oh Iam, just got down to your post - thank heavens.
