Post while you can, because no doubt it will be regarded as a thread about a thread(s)

hmm

I enjoyed Gransnet when it started and we were quite a small group and I like it just as much now that we've grown. I miss some of the earlier posters, but I am enjoying posts by some of the newer ones. Doesn't that reflect how things are in life? People come and go and along the way we have the experience of interacting with each other in a plethora of different ways. I don't read threads or post as often as I used to because I am busy, but I appreciate that Gransnet is my favourite virtual community. Also my only one, but we'll ignore that. grin

Good evening everyone! I enjoy gransnet, comment occasionally when I have an opinion, I feel I know some of the regular contributors well.

What’s for dinner?

jura2 Thu 12-Apr-18 17:17:14

Mawbroon-it was quite a while back. And I gave up as no-one ever responded to my Good Morning or Bonjour, or ever made a response to any of my comments- as if I was invisible.

Thanks Kate- but many a time it was with Good Morning x, and y and z- and never j. That is fine of course- but just didn't make it feel welcoming.

kittylester Thu 12-Apr-18 16:53:37

Kate likened that thread to walking into a hotel dining room for breakfast and saying good morning ro everyone!

MawBroon Thu 12-Apr-18 15:23:09

I wonder if you have been looking n the right thread Jura?
I still can’t see you on it confused

jura2 Thu 12-Apr-18 15:14:15

Thanks kitty. Being new to the thread, and saying all my 'bonjours and good mornings' and never having a direct reply- did feel very unfriendly. I am glad to hear it was not personal.

Lovely Spring day here again btw.

kittylester Thu 12-Apr-18 06:25:20

What everyone else has said about the good morning thread.

I think I directed you to it, jura. The few of us who are there early tend to say individual hellos but it would take forever to say hello to all previous posters later on. It's not personal.

MawBroon Wed 11-Apr-18 23:22:27

jura2 I don’t think I have ever seen you on Mick’s “Good Morning —-day” thread, but I will certainly say good morning if I do. We generally say what the weather is in our neck of the woods and perhaps something we are going to do each day.
Cliquey?
Never!

Hello all,

If I may, I would just like to sort of explain why I started this thread.

It was actually spurred by the response to my thread about what the odd job man said about his wife!

If you look back over the comments on it, it would seem that a few people thought it to be a rather different sort of thread. confused

GN used to have quite a few of those type of threads going on in the early days, and the fact that that particular thread resulted in the comments that it did, made me feel that things had changed.

Not saying change is bad.

Oh heck, I'll get me coat, as they used to say in The Fast Show.

Chewbacca Wed 11-Apr-18 22:57:54

Do it tassiegran! There are frequent posts started on the food andstyle and beauty forums, so plenty of people will respond. I will for a start! smile

tassiegran Wed 11-Apr-18 22:55:27

I was a lurker for a long time before I joined Gransnet and I enjoy reading posts on some forums and sometimes commenting. Not keen on the games and the politics are not as pertinent to us overseas.I like the food and diet posts and style and beauty but these are not very often added to. If I started a post on these I might not get any responses either but I am thinking of having a go!

Jayh Wed 11-Apr-18 22:48:38

Night, Jim Bob- er, Chewbacca!

seacliff Wed 11-Apr-18 22:48:00

Goodnight Johnboy

Marydoll Wed 11-Apr-18 22:43:37

Chewey ?

Chewbacca Wed 11-Apr-18 22:39:35

See, nobody answered me. This place is too cliquey sadblush

Chewbacca Wed 11-Apr-18 22:31:54

Good evening! grin

Jalima1108 Wed 11-Apr-18 22:31:22

So I happily joined in, with Good Mornings and updates- and not one person ever said Good Morning back.
I suppose if everyone started greeting everyone else with 'Good Morning' it could end up like The Waltons
(although that was Good Night).

Iam64 Wed 11-Apr-18 21:24:42

Jura how can you say you don't need friends or fluff, then complain that no one said good morning to you in the Cafe "very clicky and unfriendly indeed"

Anniebach Wed 11-Apr-18 20:20:56

I don't receive or expect a response when i post on the good morning thread , I post the same every morning, Just good morning , because I like to start the say the day with a greeting ?

Jalima1108 Wed 11-Apr-18 20:18:35

I don't think that people respond on the Good Morning thread per se jura - I think it's like saying 'Good Morning, the weather here is foul/good etc.

When I remember, or if I am logged in, I post on there, but am not usually logged in until later.

Don't despair, other posters are reading your post even if not responding!

Baggs Wed 11-Apr-18 20:15:58

It is an excellent way of finding out what the weather is like around the country. ? I love how you put that, ann! I think it sums up the general calm sweetness of those postings. I often want to post but even when I'm there at the right time I feel I can't always get the tone right so I just read and enjoy the quiet posts of other people and wander off again.

I think that politics and games are the two opposite ends of the GN spectrum. There are some folk who never bother with one or the other, some that avoid both. They serve different purposes. In between we have everything else, including valuable advice and light-hearted amusement. If you can't find anything to interest you, start your own thread.
