AIBU to think this is completely ageist

Too much time on computer is not good. Although I like discovering something new I dont think technological advance is always progress. Sometimes I long to go back to when life was simple. Although I am fascinated that I can play youtube songs on the car radio! And I remember pressing an icon on my tablet to see what it did and photos appeared on the telly.

I have turned photos the right way round on the pc (yes! I can do that, there is a little circular arrow). Then, when I posted them on FB, they were the wrong way up again.

I blame FB.

Suppose so Maggie, I was beginning to wonder if I’d completely lost my sense of humour, but I do still laugh until I cry when something really is hilarious.

Nothing funny there. In one case at least the grandparents had the last laugh anyway.

I suppose because Families share mildly amusing texts.... wouldn’t be much of an attention grabber, NfkDumpling.

Why are these things always “Hilarious”? Mildly amusing perhaps, but hilarious?

I’m fine with technology on the whole, but still struggle with selfies. We always look stressed (we are) and as if we’re straining to fit ourselves into the photo with a smidgeon of scenery (again, we are). Upside down’s the least of our worries.

And most of them are probably fakes anyway.

Jalima1108 Sat 11-Aug-18 17:50:37

And is it necessarily a good thing?

annep Sat 11-Aug-18 17:49:39

Neither am I. I do love technology but there are only so many hours in the day!

MissAdventure Sat 11-Aug-18 17:36:52

You have to learn to laugh at yourself.
I'm nowhere near as tech savvy as my grandsons - so what?

Maggiemaybe Sat 11-Aug-18 17:33:25

The headline was ageist, but I enjoyed the texts. There’s evidence of some lovely grandparent/grandchild relationships there. Gangsta gran, and the thumbs up! grin

Jalima1108 Sat 11-Aug-18 17:20:42

The grandparents appear to have more wit and are more savvy than the person who wrote the article.

As for Bieber - the least said the better imo.

MissAdventure Sat 11-Aug-18 17:10:56

grin
I love the selfie of the upside down couple!

Grandad was making a joke. Stupid sun newspaper article encouraging young people to laugh at older folk- as if they don't already do it enough!

knickas63 Mon 06-Aug-18 16:19:07

They do the same with 'parents' as well, presume anyone over 35 cannot understand technology. Not just ageist - but extremely patronising!

Squiffy Mon 06-Aug-18 12:04:27

I agree with your last post pattypan, it's the headline that makes me angry, too. I loved Grandma's response to the request for long-life milk!

pattypan Mon 06-Aug-18 11:54:56

This is very true
I think the headline made me see red saying older people and technology do not mix

MamaCaz Mon 06-Aug-18 11:34:51

What's more, it is perfectly possible that that grandparent knew exactly what was meant, and his reply was a joke, with the youngster being the one who didn't get it!

Some of the assumptions do seem a bit ageist, but some of the conversations show that the grandparents still have a great (and wicked) sense of humour grin

I saw this in The Sun www.thesun.co.uk/news/6916621/funny-texts-messages-grandparents-phones/ (I don't read The Sun but I saw the link on social media)

I realise it is not saying all grandparents but the implication is that if you reach a certain age then you are completely incapable of doing anything involving technology.

Complete rubbish - just look on this site and you will find many thousands of perfectly tech savvy grandparents thank you

(Also with the first one laughing at his grandparents' reaction to "love birds", if he had written it correctly as one word then it wouldn't have been misunderstood - it's their grammatical error and the grandparent's response is quite correct under the circumstances) angry
