when some one being interviewed about a house being searched (in Nottingham!!) says that there were 'undercover Fed's' in a nearby car?

jenpax Wed 15-Aug-18 07:05:18

Not unreasonable at all Kitty? I would be just the same

janeainsworth Wed 15-Aug-18 07:09:12

Are you sure it wasn’t Nottingham, New Hampshire (pop. 4785) they were talking about Kitty?grin
Or maybe the person felt that ‘Feds’ fitted with Nottingham's rather Wild West image?grin

MawBroon Wed 15-Aug-18 08:40:23

Maybe you misheard them and they were all called Fred? grin

I do it all the time kitty my all time shout out is for cookery people who say 'tumeric' instead of 'turmeric' this irritates me beyond measure.

Iam64 Wed 15-Aug-18 08:51:14

The Feds seems to have replaced the pigs, or other derogatory names for the police. I wonder how many serving officers prefer to be called The Fed ?

Riverwalk Wed 15-Aug-18 08:55:28

They've been watching too many US crime dramas!

merlotgran Wed 15-Aug-18 08:56:24

I really must wake up! I thought they were undercover Freds as well.

OldMeg Wed 15-Aug-18 09:09:58

We’re they not then? These Feds get everywhere. Didn’t there once used to be accusations of Feds Under the Beds? ?

MiniMoon Wed 15-Aug-18 09:22:53

No, you are NBU. I would have shouted at the TV too! Did they think they were in Chicago? I'm always telling someone off for misspronouncing something or other, and the turmeric gets to me too. Gregg Wallace and his sidekick ought to know better!

janeainsworth Wed 15-Aug-18 09:27:19

Didn’t there once used to be accusations of Feds Under the Beds?

I thought it was Reds under the beds OldMeg but of course I could be quite wronggrin

janeainsworth Wed 15-Aug-18 09:32:11

A cartoon from 1924. Isn’t the Internet marvellous grin

Jalima1108 Wed 15-Aug-18 10:14:28

Everyone seems to say tumeric sodapop
(annoying)

callgirl1 Wed 15-Aug-18 16:32:06

My boss in the canteen where I worked used to say asparagrass for asparagus, but I didn`t dare correct her!

petra Wed 15-Aug-18 17:04:55

Jeramy vine is the only person I shout at on tv.
Particularly when one of the eggs answers a question and he says how do you know this stuff
Me: BECAUSE ITS THEIR JOB YOU PILLOCK.

Iam64 Wed 15-Aug-18 19:55:00

Petra - Jeremy vine is just awful. Smug, sneery and I hear on good authority, that when he’s a paid after dinner speaker, he enjoys slagging off the people who listen and contribute to his Jeremy Vine Show on bbc radio 2 are foolish, not very bright and ready to be patronised

Lynne59 Wed 15-Aug-18 19:58:01

Nottingham and the Wild West image.... really? I've lived in Nottingham all my life. The city had a spate of shootings in the past (almost all of them involved black men. Not racist, but fact). I've never seen any violence yet.

janeainsworth Wed 15-Aug-18 20:20:06

It was a joke, Lynne.
In response to kitty’s amusing (as I thought) OP.
The grin emoticon might have been a bit of a clue <sigh>

Jalima1108 Wed 15-Aug-18 20:28:23

It's apparently the latest term for the police here in the UK by those who use the Urban Dictionary
hmm

kittylester Wed 15-Aug-18 21:34:23

Lynne, I was not having a go at Nottingham! I live more or less equidistant between Leicester, Nottingham and Derby and like them all.

But, on East Midlands today there was an interview with a young woman about the latest Westminster attack as they were searching a house in Nottingham.

I wouldn't 'diss' Nottingham! And this thread was light hearted.
