Eyelash serum

Fortunately as I am not pregnant, breast feeding, on chemotherapy or a child, I am happy to continue using a lash serum as I have done for years, with no side effects apart from longer lashes.

I've never heard of eyelash serum, and even if I had, I couldn't afford it. I use glasses, so I don't use any form of eye makeup and I'm allergic to everything I have tried.

Yes, I see that NanTheWiser and yet bimatoprost serums are still easy to buy online.

It bothers me that this article states that prostaglandins are safe (bimatoprost is a prostaglandin).

^Prostaglandins are powerful locally acting vasodilators and inhibit the aggregation of blood platelets. Through their role in vasodilation, prostaglandins are also involved in inflammation. ^(Wiki).

The marie-jose article goes on to warn: "Although the risks are minimal, we generally advise NOT to use a lash serum when pregnant or breastfeeding. Children and anyone currently undergoing chemotherapy should also NOT use lash serums."

Little in life is without risk but eyes are sensitive organs and I won't be putting any of these products near mine.

Bimatoprost is no longer used in eyelash serums, FountainPen, due to unwanted side effects, and is considered quite safe to use.

I use drops for reducing pressure in the eyes, and its done nothing for my eyelashes,
I did read somewhere that that particular ingredient had been taken out of the drops, but then again i was speaking to a lady in the eye clinic who said her lashes had grown so long she had to trim them because they were pressing against her glasses, maybe different drops to mine though

I am off to get eyebrows waxed shaped and tinted this morning. I also use Boots No 7 Protect and Perfect creams during day and night. Never costed it up but def note than £40 a year. We shall never know if these creams do actually work as if we had never used them would we look any different than we do today - who knows it makes me feel I am doing my face some justice whether other people notice or not.

I consider myself quite basic in that I won’t pay a lot for anything but I’m sure it comes to more than £40 over the year.

I doubt I have spent £40 on myself in the past year on beauty products (and I include shampoo and conditioner in that total).
Do many of you spend this kind of money on yourself?

I haven't seen the promotion but the active ingredient in eyelash serums is a prostaglandin called bimatoprost which is used to treat high pressure inside the eye including glaucoma. It is now being promoted as a beauty product because patients who used it noticed a side effect, that is gave them longer, darker and fuller eyelashes. However, the side effects can be:

increased tear production
burning, dryness, itching, or redness of the eye
headache
darkening of the eyelid, eye color, or whites of the eyes
eye or eyelid discharge
allergic reactions: hives, rash, itching, chest tightness, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
vision changes
sensitivity to light
conjunctivitis
severe pain, swelling, irritation, or inflammation of the eye
severe eye fatigue

It shouldn't be used without consultation with a doctor if you have had:

eye surgery
swelling, inflammation, infection, or injury of an eye
lens replacement or missing eye lens
any other eye conditions
liver disease
kidney disease

I doubt I'll be risking any of those things trying to plump up thinning lashes.
