Women are gradually being erased !!!!

Here is the definition of 'woman' given by the Scottish Government :

The definition of ‘woman’ for the purposes of the Act
2.12 Section 2 of the Act provides that for the purposes of the Act, “woman” includes “a person who has the protected characteristic of gender reassignment (within the meaning of section 7 of the Equality Act 2010[9]) if, and only if, the person is living as a woman and is proposing to undergo, is undergoing or has undergone a process (or part of a process) for the purpose of becoming female”.

Further information on what a 'woman' is thought to be, can be found from Annex B Section 2.12 in this link :

Further explanation makes clear that :

"The person does not need to have undergone any specific treatment or surgery"

And
"The Act does not require an appointing person to ask a candidate to prove that they meet the definition of woman in the Act."

So, not only can 'woman' include any man who chooses to call himself a woman, no check will be made of whether any of the carefully set out 'qualifying conditions' are being met.

Totally furious.

Many of our generation worked all our adult lives to protect, improve and promote the rights of women. Because we express concern about trans women who still have a penis being given access to women only spaces, like women’s refuges, we are subjected to abuse by some trans activists

Its ironic the trans activists seem to believe they have more rights than other women

Transgender people aren't looking for MORE rights just the same rights .I have two young friends currently transgendering from female to male .Neither have had the surgery yet both use male loos .Would you rather they used famale loos ..how would that fit with your victim mentality .Two young MALES in a womans toilet.I'd bet you would complain! Life and the world move forward.It may not be what YOU want but its what it is .You either move with it or get left behind in your wee coccoon of bigotry

I wasn't mentioning toilets and don't want to get sidetracked by that.

Are you happy that, in this instance, 'woman' includes anyone who chooses to say they are a woman, as there is to be no check on whether the person is meeting any of the proposed requirements?

'Sex' and 'Gender Reassignment' are separate protected characteristics, in the Equality Act 2010, and should be monitored separately.

Unless a person's anatomy has been changed then they remain to be the gender that they were born as/with.
This is the way I see it.

I think you will find Paddyann females transgendering from female to male aren't going to present the same sort of problems as male to female insomuch as men in public toilets are not going to be as vulnerable as say a young girl in a women only toilet next to a transwoman of the Jessica Yaniv variety. I accept they are on the extreme end of the spectrum but I wouldn't be happy for my granddaughter to be put in the position that some of the girls he encountered in washrooms were.

Unfortunately it is a biological fact that you can change your outward gender but you cannot change your sex (chromosomes).

paddynan, I don't live in 'a wee cocoon of bigotry'.

I know two young people, one transitioning female to male, the other male to female. I support their decisions. They were old enough to make them and I have some understanding of their struggles.

My concern is about the transactivists who attack women on social media. Use highly abusive terms to describe, for example, feminist lawyers who raise what. see as legitimate concerns about the rights/emotional and psychological needs of 4 year olds whose parent/guardian insists, against expert evidence, that the child believes s/he was born in the wrong body. I don't dispute that some very young children have often felt that way. I do dispute that it's always right to encourage them to see themselves as transgender at such a tender age.
Sensitive, loving parenting doesn't involve imposing our own emotional needs on our children, which in some cases is what is happening .

it's a complex issue and attacking someone who is wants to develop understanding and protect children, calling us 'bigots' doesn't help anyone.
