Climate conference

Easy to be cynical but anyone who is, is party to the current destruction of the planet. I am flabbergasted at the attitude of those who still deny climate change or think there is an easy solution around the corner.

Look at the changes in planetary weather patterns, the storms, the melting glaciers, the volcanic eruptions, the floods, the fires, the extinction of species.

Have you no pity or concern for those children and young people in the world at the moment? It won't take long for the increasing planetary extremes to cause more refugees, economic collapse as the cost of endlessly repairing infrastructure hits home and then the collapse of civil society as you know it. You do know, don't you, that many of the seriously rich are busy buying themselves future safety in highly guarded hideaways. They're not stupid!

Cynicism at this time is just despicable. So very sad for those who will be left to face the future, they won't enjoy an old age.

Action on climate change is really urgent and Scotland is among those leading the way.

Yes, it seems odd to have so many travelling there but a one-off event is hardly the problem. I think you miss the point.

The easy, most acceptable (to the public) targets will soon be met - with far more difficult and disruptive measures to follow. Change has to happen, though, or our grandchildren have no future!

Yehbutnobut - you’re right! All those woke youngsters preaching to the boomers about how we’ve ruined their planet and then getting sloshed every night in Ibiza on imported booze!

FFS 4allweknow take a step back.

They at least are looking for a solution. Compare those with those who say ‘I’m not giving up my drunken fortnight in Ibiza’ and see where that leads you.

Davos next month will be the same .... x 100.

They will all get together for this very expensive "jolly" then issue a statement to us advising us not to fly, use fossil fuels, drive our cars and become vegetarian/vegan, hypocrites one and all.

Skype and a multimedia conference would send a much better message to the world that high powered meetings and conferences can be held without numerous flights, eye watering security costs etc.

With modern technology they could have an internet conference. No need for travel, security and all the other costs.

AIBU to think the forthcoming conference in Glasgow is hypocritical in that a great number of those involved will no doubt be flying to the city. Not just the delegates but their entourages too. Can't see many of them sailing up the Clyde. Considering the recent one moved to Madrid why is there to be another so soon. And of course the cost for security alone; £200 million. Surely there has to be technology that can allow some kind of Skype type conferencing.
