AIBU to be weary already and unsurprised that Harry and Meghan are threatening legal action against the Canadian Paparazzi?
They should be able to live a more peaceful life but were they really so naive as to think they would be left in peace at this stage?
Maybe they’re just putting a stick in the sand but I think there needs to be a sea change in journalism before any real respect for individuals is shown.

I saw that the other day and wondered if it might not be the time for them to accept that there's going to be a lot of interest in them in the coming weeks and just take it on the chin. They'll never be able to control the paparazzi's behaviour, and threatening legal action every time some crop up is going to take up a lot of their time. If they keep their heads down for the next few months to a year then someone or something else will inevitably appear and take the media interest away from them.

I dont think they want the press to leave them alone ,they just want to manipulate it in a way that suits them...very like his mother did .

Sara65 Wed 22-Jan-20 17:35:41

I agree, they seem spectacularly stupid to me, if they want a quiet life they need to take a step back, and behave with some dignity, and stop threatening legal action every time they encounter anyone with a camera.

Quiet life? Like hell they want a quiet life!

Meghan (and Harry) is a complete pain in the botty! It was obvious that reporters would follow them to Canada after the amount of fuss there has been. She wants all the publicity but only on her terms.

They are not going to left alone by the press/ photographers, at least not for quite a while. They must accept this, smile graciously and appear at least, to be enjoying life in the country they have chosen to live in.Naturally, people there are intrigued by them and the paps will take every chance of a photo opportunity.

NotTooOld Wed 22-Jan-20 17:48:23

I thought M looked quite happy in that photo taken while she was out walking with Archie and the dogs that was supposed to have been taken by a journo leaping out of a bush. She certainly didn't look shocked or surprised as one would expect.

Well if they werent such massive attention seekers they might be..

I think this is actually the British press coming over to torment them further. Any photos i have seen had links to British tabloids.

Canadians don't care that much to see them dog-walking, going to get the mail etc. There was a story showing Meghan walking her two dogs and baby in carrier; the photos were obviously candid paparazzi shots. I've made it my mission not to 'click' on these types of stories.

There was a story in a local BC newspaper regarding a local fishing charter operator that turned away a booking once he saw the 'fishermen' were all British press with long-range cameras, wanting to go along the shoreline where H&M were known to be staying. Good for him and i\I hope other charter operators are willing to resist the money thrown at them for cheap stories about nothing.

I think the frenzy will die down after a while, and i think we have stricter rules regarding privacy here in Canada.

Erm thats not really how tabloids work. They dont deploy
They buy
They buy from local freelancers.

The nasty brits havent "followed" them. Local freelances have offered their pics to various tabloids, who bought them.

Nice bit of free advertising for them then!
See, its not just "the brits" cashing in!

If they want to disappear out of the public eye and be private citizens then they need to stop posting on instagram every time they perceive themselves to have done some charitable works. I want to be able to stop reading about them but it is very hard to avoid when the newspapers are so full of every step they take, comparing what Meghan wears to Kate etc. I'm afraid Diana was the same, saying she wanted privacy while at the same time courting the media. I don't think this is all going to end well.

SirChenjin Wed 22-Jan-20 18:11:30

Exactly notanan - well said.

Chewbacca Wed 22-Jan-20 18:13:30

Agree with paddyann. They need the attention.

BlueSapphire Wed 22-Jan-20 18:16:10

I knew this would happen; was only saying the other day that wherever they go they will never escape the press, and now they have made it worse than before, especially as they will lose their security protection. What on earth did they expect?

Urmstongran Wed 22-Jan-20 18:22:14

Boss a bit stuffy and formal? Hate your job commitments? Feel your brother always gets more attention than you? Cottage too twee and rustic? Not allowed to take as many vacations as you would like? Come to Canada! No residency? No problem! Trudeau would love to have you. Bring mittens.

Barmeyoldbat Wed 22-Jan-20 18:27:47

Megan looked happy and far from startled while out walking and I find it hard to believe that she didn't expect the attention. She has two security people with her, who I believe check out where she is going and if its safe, so did she know?

They are just going to have to accept the attention and stop whinging, the press will soon lose interest and move on to a new story.

Calendargirl Wed 22-Jan-20 18:33:24

Surely they should just hunker down for a while, no walks in public parks, no charity appearances, just keep a really low profile.
They are still officially members of the Royal Family until the spring, although not carrying out any duties, so perhaps they can treat the next two/three months as ‘gardening’ leave, preparing for the next chapter in their lives behind closed doors.

Oopsminty Wed 22-Jan-20 18:37:58

Behind closed doors?

I don't think so!

SirChenjin Wed 22-Jan-20 18:41:18

Perhaps suing the press on a monthly basis is how they plan to become financially independent grin

Sparklefizz Wed 22-Jan-20 18:42:15

Urmstongran Love it![ grin]

Urmstongran Wed 22-Jan-20 19:05:59

Seems Meghan was doing a photo op in the woods with Archie.

Now we're being asked to believe the paps jumped out from behind trees! Just look at the two armed security officers to know that is utter bilge.

They are off the scale entitled.

Fennel Wed 22-Jan-20 19:09:28

Poor little Archie - to me he looks too big and heavy to be carried in a front sling.
