Queue jumping dilemma!

Full disclosure: I dislike queue jumpers/line cutters.

Whilst queuing for some time today, the lady behind me gestured for her friend to join her bypassing 6 people.
I quietly ushered each of the 6 to join me in front of her.
To our credit not one of us laughed (aloud).

wink

Unreasonable of me?

No, very brave of you.

It's the sort of thing I would do in my imagination after the event when I'm still seething.

I'm too afraid of those kind of situations though, I find them excruciatingly uncomfortable.

Love it = well done

I hate when there is a single queue and two tills because someone always walks up to one of the tills as if they're the first in line. If another one appears then you've had it.

Not at all unreasonable, ananimous

It was totally reasonable and I would love to have been there

Ooh lovely! Wish I’d thought of that yesterday when I was in Aldi and chap behind me called his mate over to join him with a basketful in spite of there being a few more in the queue!

sodapop Fri 24-Jan-20 08:58:55

Well done ananimous wish I had been there to see that, would have definitely made me chuckle.

BBbevan Fri 24-Jan-20 09:01:18

Well done you, Loved to have been there, though I might have laughed???

Beswitched Fri 24-Jan-20 09:19:07

Well that thought her a lesson. If you want to join a friend in the queue the friend furthest up should move back.

Beswitched Fri 24-Jan-20 09:19:32

Taught her a lesson blush

Yehbutnobut Fri 24-Jan-20 09:51:07

Good heavens that was a bit extreme.

Pantglas2 Fri 24-Jan-20 10:16:17

Not really yehbutnobut- she was in a queue of 6 behind her mate and ended up with her mate with the same 6 in front! What’s not to like for everyone?

when I lived in Egypt it was the Egyptian men who would push in front, the Egyptian woman said nothing, we expats used to speak up and tell the men to take their turns, I would say NO she is first then me, then those 2 ladies then you, in the end many of the cashiers would not serve the men if they pushed in.
Even here I would say 'excuse me, do you think I am standing here for the benefit of my health, take your turn, we are before you'. !

I stood in a queue once in a big store when a man came along clutching a jumper, and asked the woman at the front if he could go first, as he was 'parked outside on a double yellow line'. Before she could utter a word, the woman behind me, with a voice like the late Peggy Mount, bellowed 'SO! You are holding all the traffic up outside and now you want to jump the queue? Get to the back!' He did.

Love it!
I have had someone "invite " their friend to join the queue - the friend had a basket full - and I only had a 30 minute lunch break.
They both then continued to gossip while loading their items onto the till, even keeping the checkout girl waiting, then continued in blissful ignorance while loading items into their bags and then stood, still talking, right in the way where you walk away from the till. 3 people behind me dumped their baskets and walked out of the shop, the guy behind them very loudly asked for staff to open another till.
I thought I was going to have to climb over them to get out of the shop - it took 3 loud "excuse me"s for them to move out of the way - ten minute walk back to my workplace , so had no lunch and no sit down to rest my feet!
Got my own back though - lady that had done the inviting came into my workplace the next day - I served the person behind her first !!!

I’m going to remember that in case it ever happens to me, so funny!

Notthatoldyet9 Fri 24-Jan-20 11:03:47

Somewhat petty
Be the bigger person

Brilliant. Queue jumpers annoy me. I remember stood in a queue in Sainsbury’s and I was next to be served when a Sainsbury’s member of staff (obviously off duty) just stood in front of me and got served immediately. I did challenge her. She said she didn’t see me! The cashier was very embarrassed and offered me a free bar of chocolate ?

Nannarose Fri 24-Jan-20 11:15:36

Oh dear, IMHO it really does depend on the circumstances. Faced with a very long queue to get in to, say a festival / exhibition, I have said to friend / DH 'keep a place for me while I go to the loo' and then done the same.
Rather different to a supermarket queue.

arosebyanyothername Fri 24-Jan-20 11:23:08

A new checkout opened next to the long queue I was in.
I can't move very quickly and several people dashed in front of me. Unfortunately the till wouldn't work so they had to re-join mine.
One person asked if she could go back to her place in our queue hmm

MagicWand Fri 24-Jan-20 11:24:53

I remember having just unloaded my shopping trolley at the supermarket checkout, when a woman came up with a full basket and asked if she could be served in front of me as she was ‘on her lunch break’ from work. I said ‘Yes, so am I!’ She looked annoyed but went off to try her luck at another till!

Now we have self scanning this shouldn’t be a problem anymore.

We were on a lovely visit to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and had stopped for much needed coffee and cake, mid visit.

The cafe (and indeed the whole museum) was very busy. We were in a lengthy queue waiting to be served, when an English woman behind us, asked my partner if they (she and her companion) could “just skip in front of us”.

My partner was about to say yes (!) ... until he saw my face. Then the woman saw my face ...

What galled me was the woman’s tone of voice and her expectation that it was reasonable for her to jump the queue and leave everyone else standing.

It happened more than a year ago, but my partner still brings it up and we still laugh about it.

Theoddbird Fri 24-Jan-20 11:30:21

That made me laugh out loud...brilliant

EMMF1948 Fri 24-Jan-20 11:30:25

Good heavens that was a bit extreme.

But extremely funny!
I was once in a queue of three, one going through the checkout, slowly, a second with a basket then me. After a couple of minutes the second woman waved to someone with a trolley load approaching the checkout and said to me, Let her through, she's with me. When I refused she was furious, even more so that I never spoke again, simply held my ground and looked amused! Always remember, the best sort of aggression is passive.

Nortsat46 Fri 24-Jan-20 11:31:19

Rosina - love that ...?
