AIBU to move seats on a train if someone across the aisle is coughing with just a token hand raised to their mouth?

I did, today, and the woman I moved away from was apparently offended. She talked loudly and pointedly as she got off later, about the fact that some woman had moved away because she was coughing.

No, GagaJo, you did the right thing. We have to protect ourselves from those selfish people who refuse to take the necessary precautions to keep ourselves and others safe

We were in Lidl yesterday. There was a man coughing and sneezing all the time. No attempt to cover his mouth or nose. We left

Vile people at the best of times but Hells bells surely at this moment in time you would think some things will sink in.

CATCH IT, BIN IT, WASH YOUR HANDS.

I’ve just come to the conclusion that a large % of the population are stupid and that includes people from every walk of life.

She was wrong to be offended when you moved. You did the right thing.

Possibly my then wrapping my scarf around my face three times (AFTER I'd moved) added offence. I WAS in the next carriage by then.

So what if she was offended?
Her behaviour was offensive and downright stupid.

I think you did exactly the right thing??????

I can't believe how many people do it. THREE who were sitting near me. It's younger people. I guess they know they won't be affected by the spread.

Incidentally, no ticket checks on trains to protect staff from contact with customers.

This virus has made as all so aware.
I have noticed how careless people are.
Not left my home or garden today.

You did the right thing, GagaJo. The general public can be filthy.

You were right.

You were sensible to move. She, at the very least, was being thoughtless.

It's a pity she didn't get the message though.

Let her be offended, you were right.

I have bronchiectasis and asthma and I cough. I saw a badge which explains that the person is not infectious but has lung damage. I can't find it again now!

You can get one custom made like this from here:

Thank you. I feel very awkward if I cough but I am hardly going out at the moment. I would have to think about the wording as they probably couldn't fit bronchiectasis on! Maybe 'lung damage' or something.

Grandmamaoftwo Mon 16-Mar-20 16:35:49

This sums it up!

You were right to move and she was wrong to be offended. Hopefully she will recount this experience to someone who puts her straight.
