HOW do I self isolate?

Thinking to be 'sensible' (and being 81) I thought it best to shop online this week and get a delivery, so I logged in to my nearest store which happens to be Asda. No delivery slots available.
No slots available for the next 4 weeks!
Its the same for Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Iceland.
What are we supposed to do?

Oopsadaisy3 Mon 16-Mar-20 16:41:30

Tesco’s were the only one that still had slots yesterday, have you tried them?

BlueBelle Mon 16-Mar-20 16:53:48

Nothing you can do really but wrap up and get in and out as fast as possible or get a younger person to do it for you
We have no slots available in our area either

EllanVannin Mon 16-Mar-20 16:55:05

Looking grim isn't it ?

I would say go early morning shopping or late evening but having seen the panic buyers in Tesco this morning, I hesitate to recommend it.

Bbarb if you have a local one try Waitrose. I’ve just got a slot with them. Sainsbury and Tesco were fully booked for the next few weeks ☹️

Greymar Mon 16-Mar-20 17:29:07

There are many local support groups springing up. Could you contact one?

Greymar Mon 16-Mar-20 17:29:52

Waitrose site is down.

Bbarb
Are you a member of Facebook. If no, join. Go to your local facebook group. You will get lots of help there.

Facebook is excellent, but I'm not lonely but we're going to soon be hungry if I can't go out to shop, as I didn't join the panic buying of groceries. Fresh vegs and milk are going to be a problem I think.
Even the 'collect' slots fave a dash against them, even the ones early in the morning or late at night. We don't have a tesco or a waitrose, Booth's is our top super-class store but our store doesn't deliver.

Irritating at the moment because while we're fit and well we can go out normally and ignore the self isolation instructions ..... but what of the future?

No slots available with any of the supermarkets for weeks and shelves bare in the stores. Hopefully this panic buying will stop soon. Just keep looking on line for slots and take the first one you see. Bbarb see if there is a local milk delivery in your area, they often deliver more than milk including potatoes, eggs and butter. Frozen veg if you can get it is a good standby to have in the freezer. Good luck to you all.

Our local fb coronavirus page has lots of youngsters offering to pick up shopping for people who don't want to/can't go out. They are discouraging chat and just keeping it to factual info & offers of help so its very practical

We have a local community website, which is global I believe, and there are lots of people offering to shop. It is called nextdoor.co.uk

GrannyGravy13 Mon 16-Mar-20 19:01:57

Waitrose site has been up and down all weekend, I thought I had lost my order logged back in 24 hours later it was still there, so I paid and confirmed, they have lots of delivery slots available in Essex.

I believe some supermarkets are setting up an "elderly only" shopping hour before opening time. With any luck one will open near you.
Younger people are willing to help but asking for help is tricky.
We are just too old!! My parents in law are even older and we are trying to look out for them but can't if we have to stay home. Then there are the DGC whose schools could close at any minute and their DP will need childcare.

How does that work Boris?

Charleygirl5 Mon 16-Mar-20 19:09:13

Have you any small local shops close by? A small PO a short car drive away from me had small packs of loo rolls a few days ago.

Ask a member of staff at your nearest major store when the next delivery is due and ask when the shelves are likely to be filled and be on the doorstep in time. That is what I intend doing tomorrow with my local Waitrose.

When you say you don’t have a Tesco, OP, you do know that you don’t have to have one locally to order online? I’ve had deliveries from Morrisons in the past and we haven’t a store anywhere near. I put in an order yesterday with Tesco for delivery next Tuesday, just a couple of days later than I wanted. Good luck.

Alexa Mon 16-Mar-20 19:36:34

I just checked. Tesco has slots available on March 28

Alexa Mon 16-Mar-20 19:38:42

PS type tesco on google .

Alexa Mon 16-Mar-20 19:52:30

The Tesco man should not come into the house. As I don't have a porch I put rubble sacks at the front door under a plastic basin. My instructions on my order form to the delivery man are the rubble sacks are there and please don't fill them so they are too heavy for me to lift..

Maggymay Mon 16-Mar-20 20:43:46

Just ordered online with Morrisons got a delivery slot for tomorrow only late night slots left 10pm to 11pm.

The phrase now being used is: to minimise their(over 70s/underlying condition) social contact , which makes life a lot easier.

I am planning on a midweek short trip to the supermarket at 7.30am when it opens and fewest people are present, suitably protected.

callgirl1 Mon 16-Mar-20 23:55:13

If the delivery drivers aren`t allowed to bring the shopping inside, it would be a good idea to go back to carrier bags till the crisis is over. That would make bringing the shopping in easier for me, as I have trouble bending down too often.

Shall I go for a walk, or drink gin? Shall I drink gin and then go for a walk ( I may fall over the stile) or go for a walk and then drink gin? Or shall I go for a walk and drink gin whilst out walking? So many possibilities.?

Hetty58 Tue 17-Mar-20 00:12:37

Most of the supermarket deliveries come from distribution centres rather than your local store anyway. I think maybe Iceland is an exception as it seems to be the same drivers who deliver stuff bought instore.

Tesco drivers will put all the shopping in your kitchen if you ask them to.
