DH and I have firmly got into the habit of eating supper on the sofa in front of the TV. I wonder how many of you do this also?

Never - I like to eat at a table or my little breakfast bar in the kitchen.

I'm quite partial to sitting on the sofa with a glass of wine & nibbles!

Well we do Bluegrass , Nothing wrong with that!

Armchair for me!

Less formal, waiting for a takeaway to arrive from our local Italian bistro.

We have decided to treat ourselves.

I prefer to sit at the table (which is in the lounge/diner ) but I've had my sewing machine there for the past few weeks. It would be too much of a squeeze to eat there so until it returns to its rightful place upstairs it's a tray on my lap on the sofa. A habit I don't particularly like but it won't kill me.

We always have supper o the sofa.

We eat our main meal at the table at around 12:30 to 1 pm.

Supper is a much more relaxed affair. In our house it's usually a bowl of soup and
a sandwich or something along those lines.

Never!!
I have to eat at a table.
If my children saw me eating in front of a television they would have a lot to say!
They were never allowed to eat in the same room as a television

etheltbags1 Fri 08-May-20 13:56:06

Why the scorn about eating on the sofa, does everyone not do it. Why not , it saves using tablecloths cruet etc. It's more comfortable. Why would anyone be shocked. From some of the posts on here it seems almost like something shameful. MISSFOODLOVE. What has it got to do with your children,if you can't do what's easier and more comfortable in your own home there's not much point in having a home. I think sometimes people on this site try to scorn others by trying to shame them. Not me I do whatever I like in my own home. Btw I don't know how to do highlights so I used capitals above.

We eat off trays on the couch all the time, mainly I think because we watch the news at the same time. The only downside I can see is that I'm more prone to dribbling down my front, so should really wear a bib!!! grin
We do have a lovely table and dining room but no tv there.

In the good old days of grandkids visits we have a little Ikea table they use so they are kind of used to sitting down to eat.

vampirequeen Fri 08-May-20 14:04:56

We don't have a table so it's every meal on the sofa.

kittylester Fri 08-May-20 14:07:12

ethel tablecloths? shock

We eat at the kitchen table mostly but on our knees if there is something good on the tv which is daft as we have a tv in the kitchen.

We always eat on our knees on Saturday and we always drop something down our front! blush

We use a tablecloth when we eat in the dining room - possibly 3 times a year!

TrendyNannie6 Fri 08-May-20 14:07:49

Totally agree with you Etheltbags! Made me laugh out loud, not us either. We like to relax in our home, and relaxing means simply kicking back on our recliners with our trays on our laps watching tele and having our cake and eating it ??our AC do the same in their homes too,

Oldwoman70 Fri 08-May-20 14:10:40

Sometimes I do - depends on what time I eat. If it is early and I want to watch the news, it's on a tray sitting on the sofa - if it is later it is at the table.

Really don't see a problem with it - if it is what people are comfortable with. I know someone who since being widowed eats all her meals in front of the TV as it gives her the illusion that she is not eating alone.

When it’s just the two of us it’s lap trays in the lounge.
My DS and BIL always eat at the table in their kitchen, but they have a TV on wall in theirs and we don’t.

Barmeyoldbat Fri 08-May-20 14:19:33

Ours is a home, a home to relax in and be comfortable so if we want to eat while sat on the sofa we do and it is nearly all the time. Sometimes I sit in the garden and eat breakfast or lunch, but evening meal i on the sofa watching the news.

grannysyb Fri 08-May-20 14:21:41

Eat at the table in our little breakfast room next to the kitchen. We have a television in there so can watch if we want to. If we have drinks and nibbles we have them in the sitting room. Each to his own.

TrendyNannie6 Fri 08-May-20 14:22:13

And guess what when I’ve been ill I’ve had a tray brought up to me in bed leaning back on my v pillow eating my meals, watching the tele

Charleygirl5 Fri 08-May-20 14:22:25

I have been on my own for many years and it is a tray on my lap when watching TV. I got rid of my table a few years ago when I stopped entertaining. We dine out instead.

This is a modern house and really there is little space for a table and chairs.

phoenix Fri 08-May-20 14:24:24

We have a kitchen dining room, and always eat at the table!

Although my mother would be very disapproving as there are no linen napkins or napkin rings shock

ninathenana Fri 08-May-20 15:06:22

We have a through lounge diner and can see the TV from the dining table, so most meals are eaten at the table.
There is a vinyl protector covering the table. The only time I use a table cloth is at Cxxxmas.
Friday and Saturday evening meals are very relaxed and usually eaten in the lounge end of the room

Puzzler61 Fri 08-May-20 15:13:53

TrendyNannie6 and so you should if you’ve been poorly. You need TLC. ?

AGAA4 Fri 08-May-20 15:17:11

I have a large table in the kitchen but gave up eating there a long time ago. It felt lonely sitting there on my own at a table for at least six.
I always eat sitting on the sofa with the tv on. Much nicer.

SirChenjin Fri 08-May-20 15:18:08

Only ever eat at the table and never with the TV on - it’s one of the times we come together as a family and no screens of any kind are allowed. If I lived on my own I’d probably do it though - Repair Shop, glass of wine and something tasty on a plate on a lap tray sounds v nice.

SueDonim Fri 08-May-20 15:19:16

At the table for us. We’ll have nibbles on the sofa but neither of us find it very comfortable to eat meals in chairs - too much of a balancing act!

TrendyNannie6 Fri 08-May-20 15:19:44

That’s right puzzler61 mines ongoing though but hey! Just do what you feel most comfortable with.
