Yes, Calendargirl. I'm pretty sure it was the neighbour who tidied it away so we couldn't see it anymore. I'm happy with that but hope he gets rid of it properly when/if we get back to normal with the local refuse centres opening again.

Update: DH, who is taller than me by about a foot, craned his neck over the fence and told me that it hadn't been moved but has now been neatly put upright behind their new fence so that it can't be seen. Better than before, I suppose, when it was just dumped flat part way between their end boundary and ours..........

Well, I've just had another look over the back fence, and all the old dumped fencing has been removed - result!!!

Our tip is open now.
Just for items you "can no longer store at home"

Mr. S. took our dogs on one of our country walks a few days ago, and on his arrival saw two young men acting suspiciously so for the duration of his walk, he kept repeating the registration of their van so he'd remember it.

Just as well as when returning to his van, he saw that asbestos had been dumped. On his way home he saw a couple of policeman and told them what had happened, together with the van's registration and his contact details.

He has since been contacted by the council, given a statement and they are in the process of pressing charges.

Fly tipping is a disgrace and those responsible should be prosecuted.

The builder working for one of our neighbours dumped rubbish at the end of our garden and when challenged said he thought it was waste land. We are still waiting for him to clear it.

I would have to say something. Maybe ask them if they are saving it there for bonfire night!

Well I mentioned the rubbish in passing. Just said "I love your new fence but I'm not impressed that the fencer just dumped the old stuff over the back". He was very apologetic and at pains to say that he did not ask for that to happen, and would sort it out. Problem solved, I hope!

I'd tell them. The company who put the fencing up must be lazy, thoughtless sods to have dumped the old fencing there like that. You could also ring up the company and complain about it.

That would annoy me Trisha.And very lazy of the installer.But hopefully it will rot down A lot of woods however are being blighted recently by the growing trend for children to make Fairy dens. Before I sound mean spirited absolutely nothing wrong with that if it was natural materials ,but we're talking multiple trees adorned with plastic toys,things made out of tiny plastic beads,And not temporary,many left for weeks and months.My DD showed me some of the FB pages of mum's proudly promoting this where she lives . Presumably they have younger children so overseeing the installation of these.After all the concern about plastic pollution and the Blue Planet effect what may seem a fun activity could be very harmful to wildlife.I wish they would leave the woods to nature.

I'm surprised it hasn't been nabbed to burn in one of those horrendous chimney things giving neighbours a mouth/nose-full of the stinging obnoxious fumes. Or the equally obnoxious BBQ's. Aren't I a mizzo ? No kidding but both smells make me feel quite unwell.

I would query where the old fence was though considering that some places aren't operating.

I think you are responsible if workmen you employ fly tip, which is what this is. You can be fined if it’s traced back to you.

Yes, it’s not washing machines or mattresses, but it still should not be dumped.

I think I'll just leave it for now - particularly as you've reminded me that tips are not taking waste at the moment. Maybe he will move it later, maybe not but as you rightly point out, it will rot down eventually. The woods at our side are on a huge slope, so it may not be seen by walkers on the footpath unless they look up (you can see our back fences from the footpath).

Yes I would just ask if the tradesman is going to take it away or if they have plans for it.
They well may be able to put your mind at rest or realise they have to dispose of it.

On the same theme they were showing areas of fly tipping on Countryfile last night. Some of it on an industrial scale, horrible.

Yes, it will rot if it is wood and will provide homes for insects, fungus etc..

At least it's not old washing machines, mattresses etc..

However, perhaps they will come and remove it when the recycling centres open again.

Just wondering if maybe its because there is no where to take rubbish in many places right now. Not defending his actions just saying many of the rubbish collections are on hold and tips closed. Even the few that have reopened are not allowing business waste or vans .

Apparently fly tipping has gone up by 80% during lockdown.

We think that the world will be a cleaner place with less pollution when we are emerge again, but much of it will be even dirtier and rubbish-infested.

They may have plans to dispose of them later or not know they are there.
