What is the average age of mumsnet and gransnet ?

Am I being unresonable to ask if I'm too old for Mumsnet and too young for Gransnet?
I feel like neither represent my views, opinions or lifestyle.
I dont believe life has changed soo much, it used to be that people married young and were probably young grandparents but perhaps they were older in their lifestyle as it was a different age.
But there are now people having children later in life and therefore older grandparents (And opinions!)
As well as teen pregnancies which is in every generation and so therefore younger grandparents possibly.
So where do younger grandparents go or older mums, I dont feel represented anywhere.

Just as an aside - when I was born my paternal grandmother was 42. A cousin had her last baby at 42.

Gransnet is advertised as over 50s. I don't think age is relevant on any forum, it is a case of finding one that has like-minded people contributing or not if you want to seek different opinions.

Bit of a minefield, if you google forums there are many millions.

Some Gransnetters are also on Mumsnet, so you could have accounts with both, and vary it?
I think that most on GN are 65 and over, but there are some who say they are only 50 ish.
It’s whatever you feel more comfortable with really.

Well you don't say how old you are! I'm 66, pretty average here I would say.

I feel like neither represent my views, opinions or lifestyle.

There's such a wide range of views and opinions - grandmothers are as diverse as the rest of the population.

I enjoy both Gransnet and Mumsnet, I am 66

Are there any you can recommend Cornishpasty ?
I grew up with mumsnet, so naturally joined gransnet but I dont feel like I fit in either.

cornishpatsy Sat 15-May-21 16:52:52

NambyPambyI cannot recommend anything specific, I tend to google the subject I am interested in or just chat rooms and join the first that comes up.

I agree with you to an extent as I sometimes feel the opinions of quite a lot of GN members are very different to mine. It's not just down to age though as many threads are plain bonkers on both MN and GN. On the other hand there is loads of helpful advice from people who actually know what they're talking about.

Absolutely Millie !

I agree Millie and Cornishpatsy. It has very little to do with age.
I only found Gransnet a few years ago when I was googling for advice and I came across this amazing community.
I guess you wouldn't want to be on mumsnet if you are a grandparent - or would you?
I am early 70s now but my DC are old enough to be grandparents although they are not. My MiL is still hale and hearty in her 90s. I don't think she comes on here
My 7 DGC range from 14 to 3
I've found advice, support, discussion and real friendship on here.

Me the same!

I am on both Gransnet and Mumsnet.

I feel more at home politically on Mumsnet as I am a left of centre Liberal Democrat and there are a lot of quite right wing brexiters on Gransnet, but I don't like the casual swearing on Mumsnet and I am a Granny, so generally prefer Gransnet.

timetogo2016 Sat 15-May-21 17:29:05

For me mumsnet threads/posts can be crude where there`s no need.
I will stick with Gransnet.
And age is irrelevant imo.

Jaxjacky Sat 15-May-21 17:38:22

You ask if your too old, or too young, I don’t think there’s an age criteria. It’s just what you’re interested in, or need advice on, both sites cover a range of subjects and I, for example may be looking for something for my daughter or an older relative, so I’d search the web.

NambyPamby Sat 15-May-21 17:39:02

He hee or should that be lol !
I'm with you there Varian, perhaps that is the discrepancy I feel on Gransnet, it is a political leniency rather than an age gap !

Calendargirl Sat 15-May-21 18:24:04

I’m not on Mumsnet, but always felt it was aimed at younger mums than Gransnet ones.
Some of the posts on GN are from younger people, you can tell, and I wonder why. To me, MN is the more obvious choice for under 50’s say.

If that makes me ageist.....

Lucca Sat 15-May-21 18:27:24

I think it is a great thing that there are younger contributors!

IP does not mention her age. Which makes it hard to answer her question !!

rafichagran Sat 15-May-21 18:35:06

I am on both, the swearing of mumsnet does not bother me, I try not to swear on Gransnet though, but have been guilty a couple of times.
I dont look to fit in. I enjoy the forums and contribute if the subject matter interests me on both forums.

ValerieF Sat 15-May-21 18:43:42

Funny you should ask as I don’t feel I belong either! I joined Gransnet thinking I might be able to help and possibly meet people I gelled with but.. hasn’t happened. I don’t even know if I like it! Not been on mum’s net although probably more recently a mum than a grand mum. I keep dipping in and out and offering advice where I can but ... know EXACTLY what you are saying.

NambyPamby Sat 15-May-21 18:50:21

grin hello fellow outsider!

JustMe Sat 15-May-21 18:59:22

I just burble on with a load of twaddle on both sites!

Sara1954 Sat 15-May-21 19:01:39

I quite often feel out of step on Gransnet, sometimes I feel like the new girl at school, who has to try extra hard to find some common ground.
I don’t really mind, I dip in and out, and am always happy to find someone on the same wavelength.
I’m 66, and have never been on mumsnet.

Same here, JustMe. I’m mid-sixties.

I don’t really know why I ever bother posting on Mumsnet, as it’s so busy your comments just got swept along with nobody giving a monkey’s what you’ve said. Though come to think of it, it’s not very different on here. grin

There are some hilarious threads on Mumsnet though. I was in tucks yesterday reading about the woman who slipped in the wet concrete (you had to be there).

Galaxy Sat 15-May-21 19:45:34

I saw that one Maggie, it was very funny.
