Saying you need to download a test and trace app. It is fake and should be deleted. Do not click on the link

I received one today, so thanks for the heads up, but how do you know it's fake?

janeainsworth Sun 27-Sep-20 21:57:08

Do you mean this one Sally?
The official NHS one?
Why do you think it’s fake and a scam?

There is a genuine NHS app, I've downloaded it, which one are you referring to, Sallywally1?

yes, this is a bit confusing.
OP, please can you tell us more about it, and why do you think it's a scam
i've heard of people being refused admission to pubs/ hotels unless they download it; but what if you haven't got that type of phone.

I had this email yesterday and tried to download it but stopped when I realised You have to have your data and bluetooth switched on permanently when you are out of the house. I am on PAYG and refuse to use my phone to store banking details.
I guess this means I can not enter restaurants and pubs, so be it, we are in lockdown anyway.

harrigan there is no cost associated with the app, neither does it drain the battery?

I got a text with just a link. I assumed it was a fake, as I have had three so far from different sources. I am probably wrong, so perhaps GN should delete this thread? Sorry!

Sally I think you were probably right to be wary.
I would never open a link from a text.
I got an email from the NHS & got the app from the App Store.

I was in a restaurant the other day and hadn’t yet downloaded the ap. I simply wrote my name and number on a piece of paper. I wasn’t turned away.
