Has anyone been watching this? What do you think of her husband Henry’s character and actions?
Interesting that she had put up with him for years but it took just one very small incident for the scales to fall from her eyes.
Has anyone every experienced similar?

Do you consider a 2 year affair a “very small incident” ?
However I do agree there was a lot more to object to in my opinion. He was an obnoxious, arrogant creep. Sadly of a type one sees a lot of!

They had been married for a long time, so I guess that he couldn't have been all bad. I think that seeing her old school friend made her long for the girl that she once was. In the end the did get back together, the pain of separation after a lifetime was too much. The grass is not always greener. I couldn't understand why a wealthy couple would not have had the while house!

But wasn’t the point that he had always been like that and she realised how he had “ sucked” the free spirit that she was out of her?
I bet there were a few couples watching who might have felt uncomfortable as they recognised certain traits.
His early retirement presumably to avoid some sort of enquiry after a missed diagnosis also reinforced the impression of an arrogant person who perhaps bolstered his ego by gaslighting others -such as his wife.
I couldn't understand why a wealthy couple would not have had the whole house!
Perhaps his retirement meant they needed to? I assume they downsized and kept part of the house for themselves.

PS I don’t think they got back together because of the pain of separation, it was some affection but principally pity for him with only 6 months to live.
I think the free spirit was only temporarily put on hold!

Daisymae Tue 27-Oct-20 10:23:06

Yes, I think that there was definitely affection there.

I thought both characters were extremely well written and with ideal actors for those roles. Very recognisable in real life. Quite thought provoking. The other stories were just irritating distractions.

Oh bother! I read that spoiler before I realised it was there.
Some of us are watching it week by week so haven’t got to the end. ☹️
