Front door colours

A new house near me has finished the house with a green front door. A few days later the older house next door paints theirs the exact same colour
AIBU to think this is a bit rude?

Perhaps the first door painters offered the remaining paint after doing their door to their neighbours.

Perhaps they bought the paint without knowing a neighbour had made the same choice. Dark green is apparently all the rage at the moment.

BrandyGran Wed 05-Oct-22 16:47:17

No the first door came that colour.

BrandyGran Wed 05-Oct-22 16:47:58

Not dark but light green!

I think it's a bit pathetic to copy someone so blatantly -unless they had already bought the paint, but the other people beat them to it? No one knows that except them.

If another house bought paint the same as I'd already bought to paint my door, I might change it.

I'm not sure I would even notice. We can't see our nearest neighbours' doors, nor they ours, without going to look.

In 'normal' streets there is often something of a similarity between neighbouring properties. Near where I work there was a rash of front garden deck-building a few years ago.

Green is the new black.

BigBertha1 Wed 05-Oct-22 16:57:42

Mine is black. Like No 10.

NotAGran55 Wed 05-Oct-22 17:10:47

Perhaps they own both houses.

What is “rude” ?
If you like the colour why not use it?
I think it is silly to go out of one’s way to avoid a colour because somebody nearby has used it.

I thought of going out to do a survey but cbb.
I'm sure next door's is green but not an in-your-face green.

Cue for a song!!
There's an old piano and they play it hot behind the green door (Green door)
Don't know what they're doing but they laugh a lot behind the green door (Ooh, green door)
Wish they'd let me in so I could find out what's behind the green door (Green door)

Well...... so nice to discover I'm in the trend. Most unusual! Mine is called forest green and I love it.

I don’t see why it’s a problem. It wouldn’t bother me if the neighbours had the same front door as us.

Mollygo Wed 05-Oct-22 18:15:30

Oh dear, we must all be rude then because now we all have black doors, where previously they were all white and before that several, including ours were green.

The current fashion around here is to paint the doors and windows a sort of grey-green ("heritage green"?). It's so miserable. I grew up in a rented house which was painted, like most others, green and cream (the others were brown and cream). When my parents bought the house, they painted the front door bright yellow. It wasn't long before the neighbouring houses were painted bright colours, too (not yellow, though!).

BrandyGran Wed 05-Oct-22 18:30:02

My point is why would you pick the exact same colour when there are hundreds of colours and greens to choose from! I think it shows lack of imagination and detracts from the new house.

Blossoming Wed 05-Oct-22 18:37:09

Why not, if they like it? There’s no rule to say they can’t have it the same colour. Is it your door?

It’s supposed to be the highest sign of flattery! They should have chosen their own colour though but perhaps they were not up to it.

BrandyGran Wed 05-Oct-22 19:26:52

No not my door. Watched progress on my walks as the house was being built and was just surprised. Yes imitation is the highest form of flattery.Never thought of that!

J52 Wed 05-Oct-22 19:49:04

DCs both had new front doors fitted, as did we. None of us discussed the colours and it turned out that we’d all chosen the same colour Chartwell Green. ?They were all in different styles and not in the same location.

Matching paintwork gives a street a neater look, IMO.
