T-shirt fabric. You can buy it by the yard or cut up a garment made of cotton jersey fabric.

Blanket stitch the edges in a slightly thicker wool?

Or double/treble strands of the blanket wool?

I once cut strips of fine lace curtaining to edge some knitting. It was the same colour and it worked. I machine sewed it on.

How about buying some lace and sewing it along either straight or gathered or you could sew it both sides.

Thanks for the ideas. I think the idea of using t shirt type material is the way I will go, thanks Baggy. As it is a thick multicoloured (dark purples, greens, reds, brown, white, turquoise etc.) blanket, a lacy trim would not suit. Should have described it better It will be good to envelop all the ends too, as there are many.

Yay, found some great non fraying t shirt type stretchy material in John Lewis today. Delighted with it. Colour great and not too expensive. Just need to finish the blanky and sew it on now....... Thanks again everyone x

Am absolutely delighted with the finished article. The t shirt material went on beautifully and makes it soft and stretchy. The bright stripes look lovely on the black pram. My DD is really pleased with it too. Not cheap to make though but hey ho, thoroughly enjoyed doing it. Thanks again for every ones help x

My MiL used to make rugs and mats out of old tights. I was never interested enough to ask exactly what she did with them, but she must have dyed them as they were usually mixed pastel colours.

My DD wants a large arran throw she has seen one knitted in a store knitted on large needles, anyone know of a pattern or where I would find one.

syberia - I've begun making a 'rag rug'! HildaW* has done many of them and recommended a book which I bought from Amazon, which gives very simple instructions as well as more ambitious projects. It's called 'Rag Rug Making' and is by Jenni Stuart-Anderson. I bought my hessian from ebay, and have been cutting up old clothes ready to make a start. Good luck!

You are welcome glass I had one made in a dusty pink it look's good on the end of my bed,(when I can wrestle it away from DGD when she visit's)she use's it to wrap up all her dollie's.
