Help please - changing wool thickness

Ladies, I have a pattern I really would love to use and some wool that I also want to use. Unfortunately the pattern calls for DK and 4mm needles but the wool is Arun weight and 5.5 needles, soooo... I can't get my head round what size needles to use, and if I need to follow a larger or smaller pattern. The brain is just not functioning today. Is there any one out there who's brain is functioning please.

Think nanapug you said you'd booked yourself in for a workshop at John Lewis ...if its at Bluewater, then she is a very helpful lady ...she will probably be able to answer your question. sunshine

Please let me know too ...as I also wondered if there was a web-site that indicated wool conversions for a pattern. flowers

It may be as simple as knitting the tension swatch with your chosen wool adjusting the needles until you get the correct sizing hmm

Yes Jacey you are right on both counts but I want to start it tonight!!! I hate not having a project on the go, and have more than enough to cover in my alloted hour tomorrow!! I'm just impatient!! Will let you know however if I find a site. smile

Yup - I agree. Knit with it with smaller needles and see if the tension works - if not go down a size.

But be careful because smaller needles might make the finished product very tight and stiff. I think there's a site called Yarndex which might help with advice about different weights. If not, get on to Ravelry pdq. You'll get lots of help there.
