lillian, I didn't know this site but am delighted to have discovered it now so thank you very much - a real treasure chest. smile

Gosh, Lillian you are a veritable mine of useful information today!

Hello folks...I feel I might be butting in on a private conversation? If so, 'sorry' if I'm intruding...but I'm very fond of Art/paintings and spend a lot of time lovingly gazing at the Pre-Raphaelite pictures I have hanging in my 'front room' (parlour/lounge...whatever!) if only they were 'originals'! I'm a 'Newbie' here and am probably doing everything wrong. Whatever...I love Art

annodomini Thu 17-Jan-13 21:35:20

Goose - you are right at home here. Nothing's private on Gransnet. Yes, I wish my Van Gogh and Cezanne were originals! What I am specially pleased to see on this web site are paintings by the Scottish Colourists like Samuel Peploe.

My house is full of Monets, Van Goghs, Cezannes. Why? I painted copies of them during the years when I was working and didn't have time to paint originals of my own. Now I do have time and all the years I spent copying taught me about Impressionism and how to emulate it and my own paintings are now winning prizes! Art is wonderful - I look out every morning in this beautiful French countryside and see a new painting - a skyscape/a farmer in the fields/the forest in its spring or winter colours/a river bridge in golden stone...copying the Impressionists gave me the ability to see and record the wonders of nature.

specki - what a wonderful talent to have! envy Any chance you could put some of your paintings on your profile? I'd really like to see them.

Nelliemoser Thu 17-Jan-13 22:43:37

specki were you part of that family the Greenhalghs that did extremely convincing paintings in the style of a number of famous artists? wink

Nelliemoser Thu 17-Jan-13 22:45:38

Hello Goose I love the pre-Raphelite stuff but they are not to everyones taste.

cheelu Thu 17-Jan-13 22:49:57

anno you do know its really bad to be a jealous person tut tut

annodomini Thu 17-Jan-13 22:53:54

True, Nellie, I am one of those who can't get on with the Pre-Raphaelites. I see them as over-sentimental. But that's just me. x x

cheelu Thu 17-Jan-13 22:55:26

mmm yes that is just you ann smile

Nelliemoser I've never heard of that family - but I did sing in the same choir as one of the most famous art forgers of our time - a guy called John Myatt who has recently had his own series on painting styles on Channel 4. He now has to microchip his paintings so that his clients know they are by him..he is so clever.
I could try to put some of my paintings on my profile - I'm not very good at t'internet stuff though but will have a go.

jeni Fri 18-Jan-13 15:55:49

I have several Philip Grey Gray? I can never remember the spelling. The one who calls himself an extreme artist. A Ruskin pastel and a Duncan McGregor.
I've run out of wall space so I bought the hares by James Stockton.
I'm still waiting for them to arrive.

We inherited a Wylie etching......nearly threw it out but took it along to the auction house with other stuff, when it was pointed out, we withdrew it from the sale and kept it!

jeni Fri 18-Jan-13 16:56:19

Surprise! Have you still got it?

Ylil Fri 18-Jan-13 17:19:11
