They are making silk nighties - thought I would give it a go not of silk you understand but a nice cotton lawn any ideas where I could get some?

I want a sexy nightie !! I really must make friends with my sewing machine

Some of them were lovely but I probably wouldn't wear them in bed! I used to wear a Pippa Dee nighty to balls . I admire all the participants - especially the men; I bet the the policeman gets ribbed at work! Wish I could throw something together in a couple of hours - more like a couple of years!

I so wanted the Buddhist priest to do better, but I think he caved in under the strain which is odd?! I would have expected him to be all calm. I can't think that he has made many nighties though

Such an interesting and entertaining programme. Like the Bake Off it's so inspiring. I love Claudia's humour too.

I just knew that shot silk wouldn't be right for a nightie! Well done to the winner of the week - that rolled hem was a real achievement within the time limit.

I loved to watch it tonight but was surprised that they made silk nighties. I really didn't think that anyone wore this sort of stuff. Ive never ever worn anything like this I just wear any old t shirt for bed and old woolly socks, even before I was widowed,I never expected my late husband to expect me to wear anything like this. Im amazed

whitewave you may be best looking in your local market for cotton lawn or if you are lucky enough to have a TJ Hughes near you they have a material dept.
I love the style of the nighties but not silk far better Egyptian fine or lawn,I must have matching nightie,pj's/dressing gown & slippers never any socks they bobble the sheets don't they ?

Give me a cotton nightie any time, and preferably with the shoulders covered! Lots of different fabrics are available on Ebay.

Have the series all set up on Planner, now going to watch before bed.
I have a small JL sewing machine but prefer my Grandma's Singer. My Grandad bought it just after they married, a late 1920's model.

I had my Granny's old Singer too - wish I'd never parted with it.
For fabric, I usually buy online, but sometimes it's not exactly as you expect.
The USA has a much better choice but postage is high.
I missed the programme - must see if it's on youtube .

ps re USA: I bought 2 lots of 2yds by 54 ins corded cotton, about £3.50 per yard. Postage was about £20

I wear M&S satin nighties. I also have silk bottom sheets. This means I can turn easily fro side to side!

Me too!! I've got the programme on record for the series. I did this last time and enjoyed watching it when DH went for his walk. Bliss! I really liked Anne who won it. I would love to be able to sit with her and watch her.

White wave: there is a fab fabric shop in Shrewsbury that does mail order fabric. It has the.Best selection I've ever seen. You can google it Wat**n and Thornt*n . Don't want to break any rules!! X

About Anne who won last year's Sewing Bee, she was also a very talented knitter. I've not looked for a while and I've now forgotten her full name but she used to post her finished results on Ravelry. An online knitting and crochet website with forums.

J52....a favourite shop of mine when I lived nearer....I always have to have a good feel of any fabric I buy so have not got around to going mail order yet.

I'm fascinated by the men who take part and am looking forward to discovering what they make for themselves at home. Last time one of the chaps made historical costumes. Shame that one has dropped out so soon, that happened in the first series too. Sewing under a time limit is difficult isn't it.
