My DD wants me to crochet rainbow leggings for toddler. I've found patterns American crochet but they only give the brand of wool not the ply.
They require size 5 and 5 1/2 English size hooks. The wool sock I bought is way too fine. Any idea what I should be getting? They look quite chunky in the picture.

What is the brand of wool they recommend? I could probably do some research on a suitable alternative for you.

When I was in this situation I just googled it and the answer came up with equivalents. Worth a try.

Lion brand wool. I hope it's not made from lions. I'm allergic to cat fur!

Lion Brand is available in the UK. Probably easiest if you google for retailers.

They will also be able to suggest alternatives.

Best of luck.

the pattern should give a size for a square 10 stitches by 10- so any good shop will be able to help (sadly disappearing fast...and the support and advice with them).

On Pinterest I saw a method of using up scraps of wool by knitting in a circle( about 8 stiches)and picking up one stitch from the edge each row. I didn't pin it and I have tried several searches. Has any one else any idea? Perhaps I should have started a new thread.

Sounds interesting stansgran. What was it going to turn out to be in the end? Can't envisage how it would work at the moment.
