You could use the 7 and one 7.5 as a pair. Check your tension first though, you might get away with it.

I think I would buy a pair of size 7 (4.5mm) in case it comes out uneven if you use 2 different sizes.

You could do a couple of test pieces if you have a pair of 4mm (8) or 5mm (6) - it would depend if you are a loose or tight knitter.

It would be awful to knit a garment and then not be able to wear it, especially as yarn is expensive.

I would never use odd needles in case the result came out wonky.

The best way is to use the odd needles and knit a tension square as advised in the pattern. If the tension is right it will work. If the tension does not match but is the tension you produce as an individual knitter the pattern will advise you what size to change to.

Unless you want it denser and tighter, eg for socks I would think.

marelli I think you are right as at the moment I am using 3.25mm & 4mm to do Poppy's doggy jumpers in Double Knitting.

I've knitted with it, rosequartz, and it's lovely stuff to work with, if a bit on the expensive side! Shouldn't advertise - well, I'm not really - but found the exact stuff (Debbie Bliss) on ebay, so it should work out ok!

I've just bought 4 balls of Debbie Bliss Rialto to try to crochet a cardigan for DGD

The trouble is, I see yarn and buy it and can never keep up with the knitting of it!

I may just look for some Debbie Bliss - does it wash well? (although that will not be my problem.)

It does wash well, rosequartz. It's handwash only (mainly, I think), but it keeps its shape ok.

May buy some, but will need to knit two (little garments). I already have about 3 lots sitting waiting to be knitted ...

Debbie Bliss yarn is lovely to knit with. It is mostly natural; silk, cashmere and merino. I have noticed that our local JL is no longer stocking it! I wonder why? X

Just had a look on John Lewis's website, out of curiosity, and the definitely still have Debbie Bliss J52- so you can order it. Looks really good.

I am sure the wool and sewing shop in Market Harborough would order it for you too.
