I have just heard an appeal for these for koalas whose paws have been damaged by fire. Any ideas how to make these?

I suppose any pattern for baby mittens with tie wrists? Maybe a touch longer?

pattern

They have to be 100% cotton.

Aahh

I saw this on the news I think they are very specific about what they want and as you say 100% cotton made from Tea towels - sounds more like a sewing job than a knitting one.

I saw a picture I think in the Daily Mail of the little koala , flat on his face , limbs outstretched, with all 4 paws in bowls of fluid. He looked so sad.

Then you see a koala having a cuddle wearing 'mits'.

I can' knit but if I could I would definitely be joining you all and knitting away now.

Well done if you do.

Thanks Riverwalk.

They are probably made from teatowels because they would be cotton and soft; if their paw pads are burnt they have to be sedated and their paws put into dishes of antiseptic fluid, then I suppose the mitts are put on afterwards, then clean ones needed each time..
Poor things.
I will try to put a link onto FB so that my Aussie friends/relatives can spread the word.

Here is another link, to an article about it - www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/jan/09/koala-mittens-needed-to-help-bushfire-victims-with-burnt-paws. Send your mittens to IFAW at 6 Belmore Street, Surry Hills 2010

I think they are a bit confused when they say "group provides sewing pattern for people to knit their own"
