I've just ordered a great new patchwork tool!

I'm so excited about it - it doesn't take much wink. For anyone interested, this is what I've ordered. Except I've bought the next size up, the Shape Cut Plus, which is 12" x 18".
Now I'll be able to put all my fabric to use much quicker than I would have done before.

That would suite me perfectly, I can't cut a straight line even with a one-sided ruler so this new tool would do the trick. Have you ordered it from Amazon?

Indinana Wed 16-Mar-16 18:55:58

Yes mollie, I did. It comes from the US and the postage is high (around £9) but it's still cheaper than the suppliers I found in the UK. Might have to wait till the middle of April though sad

Thats awesome , I'm not a quilter but I'd love the rotary cutter she's using !

This is a useful company in the UK . I'm nothing to do with them but I've found them very helpful. They do an online catalogue. I don't know if that's the same size gid but the postage will be uk.

Should have said the grid is on offer at the moment .

Stansgran Wed 16-Mar-16 19:11:15

But out of stock! doh!

Indinana Wed 16-Mar-16 20:24:00

That did look a good price Stansgran, not surprising they're out of stock! But with the UK postage it would almost certainly just tip over what I've paid for it. Not by much, though!

NanaandGrampy I've been using rotary cutters like that for years - they really are fantastic! I have one of the green self-healing cutting mats, like the one she was using in the video, and a transparent perspex quilter's ruler. When the blades on the rotary cutter start to lose their edge, I put a new one on, but save the old one to use for cutting paper - photos I've printed, home made cards and so on. You can get blades that cut wavy lines too!

I've got one too Indie. I use it all the time and it is brilliant. Really accurate for patchwork, much better than just using a quilting ruler. smile

I have a sharpener for the rotary cutter which extends the life a bit. . I buy the blades in packs of ten which seems a saving (of time not money)

NanaandGrampy Wed 16-Mar-16 21:38:57

I'm going to have to get one. I'm a crafter and have a die cutting machine . I use a scalpel but this looks so easy.

I'll have to find one online :-)

Well I'm really impressed - the Shape Cut Plus arrived today! That's just 10 days from when I ordered it, and it's come all the way from Grand Rapids in Michigan. Blimey, some of the stuff I order from a few miles away can take longer than that grin

This looks brilliant. I hate having to cut strips that are 'width of fabric' for sashing or binding. Mine never seem to be even. This looks exactly what I need. Thanks for sharing. smile

This looks a fantastic tool, would be such a help. DH has been asking what he could get for my upcoming birthday, so think I will ask for this. Thanks for posting about it.

Having watched the YouTube clip I'm so impressed I've ordered one too!

Indinana Fri 20-May-16 12:19:23

Think I might contact them for a commission payment, haha.
Joking apart, this is what I so lol about Gransnet - the recommendations, often of things you would never have otherwise known about.

appygran Fri 20-May-16 12:21:49

Yes very impressive. Hope it works because I have just ordered one too.

Indinana Fri 20-May-16 13:58:24

It certainly works appygran - I've used it loads of times! I'm currently working on a quilt using a couple of charm packs, but I needed some more 5" squares in different fabrics. Using the Shape Cut ruler I had a couple of dozen of them in next to no time, and all perfectly accurate. It really is as good and as easy to use as it looks in the video.

A tip: to protect mine in between usage, I kept the large, flat cardboard package it came in. This slides handily in between my sewing cupboard and the wall.

Further up ^^ I notice I said "this is what I so lol about Gransnet" grin. What I meant, of course was love, not lol! (Though of course, there are often times when GN does make me lol as well grin)

I have also got the diamond and square cut shape cutters. They are brilliant too

Lisalou Mon 23-May-16 06:19:10

Right! That is going on my Christmas list. If I can't encourage the DCs that it is a must for mummy, I will have to ask Father Christmas grin
