I have not sown clothes for over 40 years but need to replace an old beachthrowover/travelling dress. I need something really simple, no buttons or zips. Can anyone please guide me in the right direction of EASY patterns as I now consider myself more or less a complete beginner and do not want to overstretche myself and lose confidence at the first hurdle.

I use the Simplicity New Look website. Lots of the New Look patterns are marked as "Easy"
The have a good delivery service and a very wide range of patterns

I think you may be surprised how much comes back to you so, if you have put in zips before don`t be frightened of doing it again. You will get a much better fit and more flattering result. There are loads of videos online now to help if you get stuck. Also try to find some fabric that you really like. It`s much easier and more rewarding to work with something that gives you pleasure. One big tip - measure yourself! If you usually wear size 12 clothes (UK) you will be more like a size 14 pattern size - body measurements will be on the back of the pattern or you can find them online
