I've just seen on FB that the neonatal dept. at St. Thomas' London are asking for people to knit or crochet 6" squares for bonding babies and mums. They need identical pairs of squares, (any pattern, any wool but needs to be washable) one is placed with baby for a day and mum has one then they are swapped so mum and baby have the smell of each other. I think it's a lovely and worthwhile cause, if you do too and want to pass some time,
Send squares to.

hope this is ok. as it's for charity.

Thanks for the suggestion, Ninathenana, I might just do some of these. I only like knitting simple things so these will be ideal!

Another project whih is not so simple but very worthwhile: Knitted Knockers - knitted breast prostheses for women who have had a mastectomy

You can download a pattern from their website.

Thanks for that nina, I've got lots of oddments of wool and was wondering what to do with them (lots of unfinished projects blush). And I only do simple stuff so definitely hope to have a go. A lovely idea.

Thank you ninathenana

I gave some oddments of yarn today to someone who is knitting tiny hats for newborn babies - apparently they need different coloured bobbles stitched on to them, red, orange or green. We were puzzled a first then worked out that they must be using a traffic light system for different levels of care.

Squares are so easy to do when watching tv - I just tackled a complicated hat pattern when watching telly and had to keep unpicking it!
