Thanks everyone, I've now find the Janome online shop and after some email discussion I'm confident that I'm purchasing the right products.

Have you joined Sewing in the U.K. ? Sewers on there give advice and are a hive mind on all things Sewing.

Telephone the Janome helpline. The staff are very knowledgeable.

I have a Janome domestic sewing machine. It's a brilliant machine BUT it does not like just any old machine needle!
Yes, before you say "am I using the right needle for the fabric being sewn" ? I most definely am. But some of the needles available just do not agree with my machine, it only performs well with traditional Janome needles. I've noticed some brands are maybe 2mm shorter than usual and of course this will impact on the looping mechanism in the shuttle race. Does anyone know where I can buy the full range of Janome needles please? I've looked on John Lewis website, Amazon, Hobbycraft and Jaycotts but the range is disappointing.
