Printed cross stitch

My son bought me a printed cross stitch kit for Christmas. I have cross stitched previously but never on printed fabric and I am a little worried about doing all the work and the print not washing out. Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks

You won't see the print once you have covered it in cross stitch?

It doesn't wash out Knitty; it's dyed fast into the fabric and won't leach out once you've cross stitched over it with your thread. Just complete the design as normal and press on the wrong side before framing/mounting.

Agree, once completed the print can't be seen and it doesn't wash out- I've had to add an additional stitch here and there in the past to cover the print when working on projects that didn't require total stitched coverage- I'm sure it will turn out fine-

Thanks for the replies but this has grid lines!!! I think I may have to buy some fabric and count!!!

I'd not seen that so I looked it up and just found instructions on how to grid your cross stitch fabric!

So it must get covered when you do the cross stitch and not show.

Apparently they should wash out after completion.

I am contemplating having another attempt at cross stitch but I think the kit I have chosen is too ambitious for a novice.

Knitty is it not the case that you stitch the area in the appropriate colour and don’t stitch in the grid lines?
Won’t they then just disappear under the stitches, once the whole area is covered in the appropriate colour wools?

I am an enthusiastic cross stitcher and I can’t quite understand your issue here?

Thanks all.
There isn’t any thread for the background (white in the picture), I’ve checked.
I love cross stitch - just never had a printed kit before!!

They should wash out then. Can you try washing a corner where it will be stitched white and see if it comes out?

I typed unstitched white but autocorrect did not like that!

I’ll try that - I’ve nothing to loose at this point! Thanks.

It should tell you in the instructions. I just finished one with grid lines and all the stamped bits disappeared as soon as I gave it a gentle wash. My instructions said to make sure you don't get the aida wet until you have finished. i'm very happy with the results.
Enjoy your cross stitching smile
