Torn paper work

Not sure what you're referring to. Sounds a bit like making a mosaic.

Thanks everyone. Still collecting old magazines for the new hobby which I must admit i’ve not made a start on yet. I don’t know whether it’s because i’m subconsciously saving some of these crafts for winter in case we get the dreaded Second Wave. I hope we don’t get a SW, but we possibly will! I have so many craft ideas buzzing around in my head at the moment and yesterday I was picking small flowers from the garden and pressing them to make pressed flower pictures - fairly contemporary pictures with minimal flowers. Love making things - it’s been a bit of a saviour over the last few months. Thanks again - happy crafting everyone!

I did this many years ago at art school. I found it was useful to collect print on lots of different papers, not all glossy for example. I used old magazines and newspapers, greetings cards if thin (if too thick they tore in layers) and did some really quite good pieces. It was very satisfying. I kept bags of “greens” and “yellows” etc. I can’t remember which but some colours were surprisingly hard to find!

I’ve had a look fevertree. I love the sheep with sunflowers on his head.

I had never come across this before until I saw the work of a Derbyshire artist called Giles Davies whose pictures are unbelievably beautiful, created from thousands of tiny pieces of torn up magazines. Not sure I’d have the patience!

I've just done a whale picture using mixed media . I used torn newspaper to suggest movement and turbulence in the depths . I rather like it and will have another bash - it was good fun .

I've made a few greeting cards using torn hand made paper. You have to slightly dampen it to ensure that the paper tears nicely, revealing as many strands of fibre as possible. Banana paper was a challenge!

Thanks for that, fevertree, will give it a go and see what happens. I love creating things - it’s given me enjoyment and a sense of a purpose during lockdown. ps yes - can imagine you wish you had kept some of your mum’s collage work. We clear out some of our belongings and those of our parents for what seems good reason at the time, but sometimes then regret it. Perhaps if you try torn paper work yourself, it may make you feel slightly happier about it. Best wishes.

Honey my mother used to do something similar, in collages. She used to create landscapes etc just kind of freestyling and glueing bits on. They were lovely and I'm sorry we didn't keep any.
