I am not keen on it being referred to as 'an open sore' (the artists description).

Viridian Tue 05-Jan-21 12:07:18

I like it, not because of what it represents but because I work with concrete and I know the planning that would have gone into it.

FannyCornforth Tue 05-Jan-21 12:09:01

Not a lot.
I wouldn't rate a bright red plastic penis on a hill either for that matter.
Or indeed anything bright red and plastic.

Riverwalk Tue 05-Jan-21 12:18:36

I'm impressed with the use of concrete & resin but the overall distance view up on the hill indicates the vulva is open and available; a sort of celebration of the openness.

It's not obscene but not a great piece of art.

BlueBelle Tue 05-Jan-21 12:18:45

Blimey if mine was that colour I d be at the doctors

Totally agree Fanny horrid plasticky looking thing

Jaxjacky Tue 05-Jan-21 12:27:06

It just looks really out of place in that countryside.

Namsnanny Tue 05-Jan-21 12:35:59

To be honest I would have thought the amount of times genitalia has been used to make an artistic point over the last 50 years, would have rendered the use of the subject redundant.
Strikes me as juvenile, and not worthy of the attention its seeking.

Blossoming Tue 05-Jan-21 12:46:11

It’s very interesting

Grannybags Tue 05-Jan-21 12:46:45

Doesn't do anything for me. Not because of the subject matter it just looks out of place.

Being bright red doesn't help!

EllanVannin Tue 05-Jan-21 12:49:11

Not right in the head.

Auntieflo Tue 05-Jan-21 12:51:26

Horrible

Vickysponge Tue 05-Jan-21 12:53:19

Vile

Lucretzia Tue 05-Jan-21 12:58:07

I think it's silly and pretentious

It also looks hideous

And no doubt it will end up being smashed to pieces or vandalised.

As my Dad used to say It's not big and it's not clever

Why spoil a pretty nature area?

I am thrilled I have no artistic leanings which would have me waxing lyrical over its clean beauty and what not

It's ugly to me

emmasnan Tue 05-Jan-21 12:58:27

I don't think its a good representation of a vulva, especially the colour.
Looks very out of place but I'm not sure a giant vulva would look good anywhere!

grandtanteJE65 Tue 05-Jan-21 12:58:51

I cannot consider it art. To me it is a form of pornography.

Why make a statue of only one part of the human body?

An arm or leg on its own would look just as odd.

Septimia Tue 05-Jan-21 13:27:10

Blot on the landscape. Not environmentally friendly (that shape, won't it increase water run-off and erosion?). Not attractive. Can't think of any justification except for being controversial.

Plant some trees/flowers instead.

Elegran Tue 05-Jan-21 13:41:25

The woman who created it has achieved what she wanted. It is being talked about, and some strong feelings stirred up. A result!

ginny Tue 05-Jan-21 13:47:21

Totally ruins what looks like a very attractive park. Why ?

Bridgeit Tue 05-Jan-21 13:48:53

I think someone may have too much time on their hands. ?

LauraNorder Tue 05-Jan-21 13:50:33

I despair

cornishpatsy Tue 05-Jan-21 13:52:01

Agree with ginny Why?

It makes me think of the sort of art a 14 year old would do for shock value. You never see large sculptures of a big toe or an elbow.

janeainsworth Tue 05-Jan-21 13:55:59

Lucretzia Why spoil a pretty nature area

The article does say it’s in a ‘Botanical Art Park’.
So that’s alright then, presumably.

I think imposing public art in a natural landscape though, is a problem.
Here in Northumberland there is a proposal to erect a massive steel monument at Wanney Crags, in the middle of beautiful open countryside. Fortunately it is being vigorously opppsed.

GagaJo Tue 05-Jan-21 13:59:44

Sorry Lucretia, but it IS big!

V3ra Tue 05-Jan-21 14:26:13

Who wants to see this if out for a walk in the countryside with the family?
Some people are just attention seekers. Tacky and totally unnecessary.
