Rainbow babies and Sod’s Law

A helpful Gner gave a link the other day to a charity that was asking (among other things) for black and brown faced dolls, I thought I could use some of my multicoloured stash to make some ‘rainbow’ babies. I eventually located a not too fiddly pattern in a Jean Greenhowe booklet, and sent for it.

One and a half babies later, I was idly browsing the JG website for nothing in particular when I clicked on ‘free patterns’, and guess what? Found one for Rainbow Babies! About the same size and not too much different, except that the legs are separate and there’s a hat instead of ‘hair’.

Now dithering as to whether to make more of one or the other.... Would separate legs go down better, O wise crafty Gransnetters?
Here are my first 2, second pic is the alternative. I would make either in rainbow colours though.,

I would go with the separate legs and the hat. Both very cute though.

They are lovely Witzend. I like the separate legs best.

They are both lovely. Which are you most comfortable making?

I do prefer a leg at each end!

Both gorgeous but I think separate legs will be the winner.

As mother of a child who always carried soft toys round by one leg, I would say separate legs!

NotSpaghetti Mon 01-Feb-21 15:21:12

Yes me too. 2 legs is best!

I think if they are for tiny people more eye defining would be good too... can you put the whites of the eyes in without making them all look startled?

Hithere Mon 01-Feb-21 15:40:42

They are so cute! You are a pro at this

Both are lovely but yes, I agree separate legs.
Otherwise they will have to hop everywhere.?

Another vote for separate legs, like Callistemon my youngest carried all soft toys by a leg grin

Rosie51 Mon 01-Feb-21 16:06:13

Should have added both are lovely!

Have you got the link to the charity, Witzend? I made some on Lockdown 1, but the charity I’d heard about stopped giving them out because of COVID.

Witzend Mon 01-Feb-21 17:07:41

It’s Knit for Peace, @MaggieMaybe, someone kindly gave the link recently. Comes up easily courtesy of Mr Google.
The site was asking for ‘black and brown faced dolls’ just very recently.

Separate legs, then! I said it was Sod’s Law, didn’t I? A free pattern to download, and I’d sent off for a whole booklet! Never mind. I’ll send the others anyway and hope they find a home.

BTW, whoever said it, it might not show in the pic, but the eyes do stand out very well. I wouldn’t dare mess with Jean G’s instructions anyway - it’d be asking for a mess!

Oh that's good news Witzend
It was me.
They are really lovely little fellows... ?
