How has Banksy managed to paint a big wall on a main road, in a big town without anyone seeing him ?
How come the papers can dig out people that have been in hiding for years but no one knows who Banksy is ???

Jaxjacky Thu 04-Mar-21 18:23:28

Because he/she is magic!

grandmajet Thu 04-Mar-21 18:27:47

I think he uses stencils to make the painting process very speedy.

He is known around the Bristol area.
Most of the work is in the pre cut stencils he uses.
I was very chuffed when he came up north to do one in our City.

Of course he is magic and travels by moonlight on his unicorn.

Cloak of invisibility - where do you think JK Rowling got the idea from?!

cornishpatsy Thu 04-Mar-21 20:34:58

This is how the Dover one was done.

I can't stand Banksy.
Hugely overrated, derivative and a bit rubbish. He's done incredibly well with very little talent.
He is widely believed to be a bloke called Robin Gunningham.

I love Banksy. He is a talented artist, I would challenge those who say he is rubbish to do better. Real social commentary, There is a reason why people enjoy looking at his work.

FannyCornforth Fri 05-Mar-21 06:30:35

To be honest, vegansrock, I do know that I can definitely draw better than he can, or are his figures so poorly executed on purpose? The arms are always too short.
I'll give you the social commentary bit though. He's a good cartoonist, but not exceptional.

You can challenge me as much as you like! I'm not being too serious about this, and I'm not going to be drawn (geddit!) into this much further, but I actually know a lot about art, and I definitely know what I like! smile

I’m overjoyed that we have one of his masterpieces on the wall of the most famous places in my town.

We went to the Cans Festival with my sons and marvelled at the talent before leaving our own little marks .

Well Anthony Gormley’s statues are rubbish fannyc if you go by “the art must look like a photo” school of thought. You are of course perfectly entitled to prefer one form of art over another, but it’s a bit much to dismiss it as “ rubbish” ( I know a lot about art too).?

I think Banksy is great. Certainly gives me a lot of pleasure and I'll certainly settle for that.

FannyCornforth Fri 05-Mar-21 06:49:32

Of course I don't think art has to look like a flipping photo!
Honestly hmm

Oldwoman70 Fri 05-Mar-21 06:50:06

I love his/her work and truly hope his/her identity is never revealed

FannyCornforth Fri 05-Mar-21 06:51:32

Oldwoman he is Robin Gunningham

Oldwoman70 Fri 05-Mar-21 07:03:23

FannyCornforth That is a rumour which has been going around for some time, some believe it but many others don't - I prefer not to smile

My views on Banksy have nothing to do with which form or movement I prefer.
I'm being subjective - he is a terrible draughtsman for a graphic artist.
I'm not 'dismissing' him. I have given his work careful and professional consideration.

Jaxjacky Fri 05-Mar-21 07:53:22

Love his Art, the enigma, the wry smiles and the little surprises he offers, definitely magic ?

You are perfectly entitled to your view of course, but it’s just that- your view. Many others appreciate Banksy and his thought provoking work. There are many pale imitators, which is always a form of flattery.

grandmajet Fri 05-Mar-21 08:07:33

I love that FannyCornforth can draw better than Banksy. Please come and draw on my house Fanny, I’ll provide a ladder and a man to catch you if you fall off! ?
