That fabric looks lovely Witzend. I have thing about leafy material and recently made a skirt with all sorts of leaves.

I’m thinking of making a simple kaftan for summer. When I lived in the Middle East you could buy suitable cotton lengths for the purpose - all you had to do was cut and finish a suitable neck opening, and then make a seam from somewhere under the armpit (not too close) to near each side of the hem. IIRC the side edges were somehow finished so that you didn’t need to do anything.
They were very practical and useful.
Finding a suitable fabric is the question - I feel a trip to John Lewis coming on!
I did think of Liberty Tana lawn, since there are some gorgeous prints, but it’s probably too thin.

I've ordered some fabric to make a kimono to hide my arms! For anyone interested in sewing, I chose this type of fabric www.spoonflower.com/organic-sweet-pea-gauze-fabric because I feel it will be very airy and light! I ordered a lovely coral scallop fabric and am really looking forwards to sewing with it.

Could do with similar here - dining room table is often littered and because I’m making a stashbuster patchwork blanket alongside smaller things, in the sitting room there are 2 shopping-type bags stuffed with different coloured yarns, to save me going upstairs to the main stash whenever I’m changing a colour.

I love having a go at any craft, usually make things for family presents, the my oldest GD who is now 20 always puts in an order in advance this year the theme was Butterflies for her working from home desk. This is the sign my grandchildren made for my craft room, very true .

I am having a break from knitting because I have discovered Netflix!

I might do some sewing for once. Although I really like them, the cushions we used with our old garden chairs - joined seats and backs - don’t quite fit the newer ones - seats a bit too big and backs not quite long enough. And they’re getting a wee bit the worse for wear now.

So I spent ages last night looking online for suitable fabric and have sent for a sample. I’ve previously made 2 enormous box cushions for a dd’s garden seat, but these will be rather more of a fiddle.
I’d just buy some if I could, but all the ones I’ve seen online are so boring - just plain or striped, whereas the outdoor fabric I’ve found comes in glorious jungle and botanical prints.

Yet another dress and two pairs of shorts waiting in the hall for when DGC come to visit (we're their childcare bubble). And a top and shorts half finished upstairs - I just can't stop! I've now had a request from GD for a summer robe to wear when she gets up in the morning, so I've sent off for a pattern for that, too!

Onward and upward. It's good to hear that at least we're getting something out of it. Keep going ??

I would love to make things to sell for money, but realistically I am not quick enough so I prefer to make things for pleasure and like you, donate to charity. I'm also not very confident so it seems easier to offer something for charity.

I discovered a dress I'd cut out and pinned before the wretched covid started- so I've been sewing it together! It's not finished yet but I feel so much more positive not sewing facemasks! I'm planning to make more clothes and lovely things for myself!

Onwardandupward.. I don't sell things I make either, I don't have the confidence to do so, however I have made face masks, and my husbands plumbing suppliers saw his face mask and wanted some to sell for the charity concerned , so I made some and split the proceeds between the 2 charities. I have an inferiority complex, I don't think anything I make is all that good, so I wouldn't dare put anything out there to sell. I was chuffed that this chap thought my face masks were good enough to sell, but as a rule I've never sold anything I've made, If I enjoy making something, I usually make a few and push them through a charity shops letter box or put them in a donation bag. I make cards, I also sew, but now I'm into kazanski ribbon folding, which I learnt on YouTube, I've made some lovely cards decorated with ribbon motifs, so now I'm experimenting with my own techniques. I think it's nice doing something you enjoy whilst benefiting a good cause, it gives us a sense of purpose.

I made face masks during the first lockdown, it was coming up to poppy day, so I made them in the H4H colours and embroidered a poppy on too. My husbands plumbing suppliers put them on the store's counter for a donation, to which I split 100% of the proceeds between the poppy appeal and H4H charity. I needed to feel like I was doing something useful in troubling times.

I spent a whole year sewing nothing but facemasks and really really am fed up of making them. I didn't sell them but family kept asking me for them and I also donated some locally. Today I made a dog bow and it was a breath of fresh air and cannot wait for my online splurge of fabric to arrive!

All that jewellery sounds great! @Authoress and also selling masks @Speldnan! I wish I was more enterprising, but I actually am rubbish at selling anything even if I could technically sell it.

LOL I have a made jewellery mountain! I wish I liked photographing it and putting on Etsy half as much as I do making it...

I’m always making things too. Made face masks for sale during the first lockdown. Knitting toys for my GC, covers for family stools and most recently I’ve been finishing tapestries and cross stitch started years ago and not finished- my own as well as my mother’s. Now I’ve got to do something with them ie make cushions to put the tapestries on! Never ending ?

I am also making lots of things, currently have 2 baby patchwork quilts on the go and am making a ribbon embroidery top for a trinket jar that needs replacing. Knitting on the go, but it is all squares, I can pick that up anytime and usually do three or four squares at a time.

I just had a splurge on Spoonflower buying dressmaking fabrics and can't wait to try out my new patterns! After a year of sewing facemasks for everyone in my family, I am finally going to sew something nice for myself!

Well done beautybumble. I too can't stop . Decided to clear out my wool stash and have now almost finish a 5' square multicoloured crocheted blanket!

"Making things" is so rewarding as just seeing the result of the time and effort seems to make it worthwhile. During the last year of lockdowns, there seems to be such an increase in all things handmade. Unfortunately, as many of the blogs say, we are not all naturally gifted in this way. Very little skill is required for basic knitting and crocheting. There are really good tutorials on YouTube. I make for Sleeping Baby Angels, most of the patterns are available for free from these types of charities on their websites and social media platforms. New parents who have the sadness of either a premature baby or a sleeping angel have not prepared to handle this type of situation These charities and neo-natal units are so very grateful for these items, some of which are really simple to make.
