I am angry (hot) Sweat running down my back & I'm indoors! I've tinkered around the edge of jobs all day but I'm not getting very far. Are you finding it hard? I can't wait for the weather to break...

DanniRae Tue 11-Aug-20 16:29:28

No I am not achieving anything except getting hot, bothered and cross - and dreading bedtime sad

Apart from a very early morning walk I have done very little. This heat is exhausting.

Went to work today, my office is up under the roof in a barn conversion with only a velux window!

My Sainsbury's delivery has just arrived and I commiserated with the driver about the heat and humidity. He said that every time he makes a stop he gets in the back of the van and stands in the chiller for a minute or two to cool down. grin

I wondered why he was in the van so long!!

I have been looking after two under-7’s all day. We went out for a walk first thing when it was cooler. They have been very good playing play dough etc this afternoon, plus had a cool bubble bath with all the water play toys.

Wow phoenix that must have been crucifyingly hot?

It’s 32 degs here and I’m ok indoors and have a fan on when I’m sitting still.
So far today I’ve dyed my hair after breakfast, collected a parcel and some food shopping from M&S and I’m cooking a Lasagne to go with salad later.
Lots of iced drinks on the go, sipping them through straws. Seems to help me keep cool.

What are others doing to keep cool?

Yup. Up early cut the grass front and back, showered, walked dog, collapsed in a heap! Swept outside, in the shade, changed sheets put them out. Listening to play in radio in the garden this afternoon before finishing up my book.

Made bread yesterday (yes, I know, but I didn't have any and I avoid shops as much as possible). Have almost finished knitting two jumpers for my grandson - on a knitting machine, but the room it's in is so stifling, that I can't sit there for long!

I really wish I had a paddling pool (for the grandchildren, of course wink), but if I buy one now, it'll come in time for the drop in temperature later this week....

Very little!! Feel like a puddle!!

Day two of lying on the sofa with tummy bug. Fed up as I love this weather and would otherwise be out walking reading or playing tennis in it.

Bathsheba Tue 11-Aug-20 17:02:40

Lucca poor you, a tummy bug in this weather is really no fun flowers

Did my usual exercises whilst listening to Today on R4, had breakfast, went for a walk with DH, cut some leaves off the tomato plants as they are not ripening, had lunch outside in the shade, got too hot, washed up, since then sitting inside as sun has come round and now too hot outside.

4 year old and I have stayed indoors with a nice breeze blowing in, watching Sarah and Duck and painting. But it's been cooler today in this part of Cornwall (cooler as in less than baking hot grin).

JonesKpj000 Tue 11-Aug-20 17:11:14

Up early walking my dog, then tried to do a bit of tidying up in the garden. Too hot for me, so came inside to cool off and read Gransnet. Hope you are all coping ok.

Puzzler61, yes, it was a tad warm! I "borrowed" the portable air conditioning unit from the machine room, which helped a bit, but it's so noisy!

Spent time trying to arrange a vintage ice cream van to come on Friday, as a surprise great for everyone, which was fun, (locally made ice cream in a fabulous range of flavours) then had to reconcile the company credit card, which wasnt!

Fancy salad nicoise for tomorrow, so now making a shopping list for Mr P.

Must remember to make it clear that there must be no substitutions! grin

Went to Hairdressers for 3 hours, so now feel more like myself, sat reading in coolest part of the house, then DD2 came over with the dog, decided her house was cooler than ours so has gone home, when she called the dog she hid under the desk in the study and wouldn’t come out, so now we have a dog to take out later and to stay for the night.
Apart from that staying indoors reading and GN, I bet all of the plants are desperate for a drink in the garden though.
So sorry that you are poorly luccacold wet flannels are the best thing to put on forehead and neck.
Really sorry for anyone who has to work in this weather though.
It’s so hot I might have to turn the heating off!

phoenix Tue 11-Aug-20 17:20:32

Treat, not great, damn auto correct!

SpringyChicken Tue 11-Aug-20 17:47:54

Today's a good day to linger in supermarkets with aircon.

Puzzler61 Tue 11-Aug-20 17:52:47

My partner has done a one hour workout on zoom. He has done two teaching sessions on Zoom and is now doing an hour of instrumental practice.

I have done half an hour of exercise on Zoom.
I was going to bake salmon very early this morning, for tonight’s supper, but I forgot.
I made 2 tuna and salad sandwiches for lunch and two bowls of raspberries and yoghurt.
Then I sat on the sofa all afternoon reading the Guardian and GN.
I have pizza bases in the freezer and some nice ham and red onions in the fridge, so I will make a pizza and a salad for supper.
I have achieved precisely nothing today. My biggest dilemma now, is whether to open a bottle of wine on a non-wine evening.

Nortsat Tue 11-Aug-20 18:20:04

Phoenix can your vintage ice cream van drop by our place first on Friday? ... we’ll have two 99’s please ... ??

lemongrove Tue 11-Aug-20 18:39:07

I hate this hot and humid weather?
Any household chores have to be done early ( and am not doing much in any case).
Today, saw DGC and DS, changed the bedding and washed a load of towels( well, the washing machine did!) and made a ham and boiled egg salad for our meal. That’s it.
