I am knitting a jumper, which has a plain st.st body and the sleeves are in blackberry stitch, also known as trinity or raspberry stitch. I have used blackberry stitch before mainly in aran but never at the edge of the garment.

Can anybody explain please how do I increase and incorporate these stitches in the pattern. Do I need to have made four increases each end before I can incorporate these stitches in the pattern.

I hope this makes sense. I am ready to bung it in a bag and add to my stash!

Many thanks.

CraftyGranny, I can't help but 'bung it in a bag and add to my stash' sounds so familiar. In my head, I'm finishing them 'later'.

Unfortunately Hetty this is a jumper for my sister, so I feel obliged to finish it. On the plus side, I am going to get my machine out for the st,st, body! Is that cheating?

I call my stash 'Projects in Progress' and there are lots

I enjoy knitting blackberry stitch too EV, but this shaping thing has me stumped

Shaping when knitting blackberry stitch (or any when stitches are made) formula: do your shaping decrease and then make sure every pattern increased stitch has a corresponding pattern decreased stitch

Thank you again for your help.....

Now then, as I said in my opening thread, this is a jumper for my sister and I have the perfect solution. I am going to get out my knitting machine, the body is plain st.st.. and I shall use a different stitch on the sleeves. Problem sorted. I know, it is cheating. But, to make it even easier, my sister wants me to show her how to use the machine because it is so long since she used one. She can knit it herself !!!
