Ladies always used to wear pretty frocks and high heels. Skirts are probably acceptable these days.

Gentlemen need to complement the ladies – clean, tidy and reasonably smart. In the past a gentleman would have worn a lounge suit but this is probably not so common these days. Wear a tie and if it seems OTT, then take it off and shove it in a pocket. Wear shoes that you can dance in that are well polished. Have fun.

Hello again,
Thanks for replies. All very helpful actually! Hopefully I will not get "Lost in Space", and I am sure many will bring their husbands! (Thank Google for those!)
Anyhow should be interesting.

Richard.

All you can do is try it. If you don't feel comfortable simply explain that to the others and I am absolutely sure they will respect you just as much.

If they have invited you then the only view you can take of that is, they like you and feel you might enjoy not only their company but that of others too. How nice!

As for 'what to wear', ladies like a nice clean turned out gentleman and they don't really look at what you are wearing, more the state of your appearance. I am confident that you must be a well turned out gentleman or they would never have made the invite in the first place. Just go for it and be open minded, remember the first couple of times you are more than likely to feel a little shy, as big you are.

Happy dancing, enjoy! wine

You'll certainly be in demand, Richard Shortage of men always reminds me of the wonderful Joyce Grenfell's 'Stately As A Galleon' grin

A tea dance is usually a bit of ballroom and a bit of sequence so if you can dance you'll not only be ok but as a man you'll be in demand lol.

Men usually wear a shirt and trousers. Depending how posh it is you might need a tie ...you can always take it off.

Hi, hope I am not intruding. After letting it slip that I actually knew how to dance, I have been asked to come along to a tea-dance by a couple of ladies where I worked this summer. I have not been to one really before. What are they like? What to expect anyone?
Any suggestions on what to wear? I have not asked, but I know that it will be mostly much older than me and my feeling is that it would be fairly dressy.
Thanks
Richard
