The best thing about being a Nan

When the GC are here it is the only time my OH really smiles - that is wirth everything to me.

When a small beaming face proffers an open hand with a very large slug on it and says 'I minding a slug' and I bend closely over it and show a real and fascinated interest in it before going to find it a lettuce leaf I realise that love hs no bounds.

When a small person catches sight of you and runs towards you arms out stretched shouting "NANNIE"

At the moment, it's walking into my daughter's house and two little bodies come crawling over, grab my hands and push them back and forth to tell me 'do row, row, row your boat!' They descend into hysterics when we get to 'if you see a crocodile!' Bliss

The fact that they love you whatever.

When my lovely seven year old GS (who lives with us) comes home from school and calls out "where is my lovely Nana?". I just melt.....

I love it how my name has changed over the years, I was nanny when they were small, Nan as they grew and now my big grown up grandsons call me Grandma.. I get teary when these 6ft+ men say 'love you Grandma' with a hug or a pat on the shoulder gets me every time.

It is really nice being a Nan isn't it, and all these stories are so lovely and gave me goose pimples and remind me that the world is not just full of horrid people with horrid things happening. I have only been a member of grans net for a very short while and tried forums a long time ago and did not like how harsh and rude people were but the people on grans net forum are sooo genuinely nice decent people and I am so happy about that because I now feel that I have somewhere nice to go to if I want a chat.

What lovely comments, CHEELU - we'll have to make sure we live up to them!

We used to pick DGD 2 up from nursery aged 2 (before they moved to Germany with DS's job- broke my heart but that's another story) and whenever she caught sight of me she would run to me shouting "That's my Granny" and throw herself into my arms. Still get a tear thinking of her doing that and still love her to bits!

gracemum I am sure you will, thank you---Hi gagagran sorry to hear that your family moved to Germany, I could feel your heartbreak, but you know Germany is soo close to The UK, would it be possible for you to make a few trips to Germany and get to she your grandchild
