For me it was when my son was born, I really loved being a Mum, having a little baby to love and have someone love me back, which he did very much as still does now, so far I have never been able to match that happiness....

My wedding day.
We had the whole world before us. No money, but a lot of love! We thought life would go on for ever and promised each other "as long as we moth shall live,"

jeni Sun 13-Jan-13 15:43:47

Moth?
BOTH

cheelu Sun 13-Jan-13 15:48:10

Oh thats lovely jeni, all still ok with OH? x

Don't know. He died 10yrs ago. We were still married and I loved him dearly. Seems like I'm going to be like my mother. A widow for 30yrs.
But on the other hand I don't think I want another man.

The first few years of marriage, we lived in a rented furnished flat, had no money but were very happy with our whole lives ahead of us. I often wonder where the time went, it only seems like yesterday but was in fact 43 years ago!

I loved being at college as a student/ newly wed, I did so enjoy the four years I was not working when the girls were tinies and also had a fab time as a headteacher much later...

Not sure if I would go back to any..I now have a lovely home, near my girls and DGCs and DH & I do p/t work and also have time to do things together too..

but I guess if I could take the knowledge with me I might go back to being 20!

Isn't it funny that we have said that happy times was when we had no money but lots of love--Barrow me too, It all feels like yesterday..

I had an unhappy first marriage, but I loved the early days of being a Mum. I was not much more than a child myself, a very young twenty year old when I had my first, but I just loved that whole period.

I loved the time when my father had just retired from the RAF and he and my mother bought a small hotel in Ventnor, Isle of Wight. I was seventeen and helping them get set up, welcoming the first guests and experiencing small town life by the sea was very exciting. I had never been able to put down roots due to all the service travel and I'll always regard the Island as my spiritual home. I met and married DH there and we moved to Freshwater where our first two children were born....Happy Days smile

Oh university! Away from home and the suffocating small town where I grew up. It was the mid- late 60's so fashions were available that I had never seen, the freedom of deciding how I spent most of my time (OK had to go to lectures) the intellectual stimulus of meeting some interesting people and a beautiful place to live!

I also enjoyed my late 20's early 30's when I had had our first 2 DD and then had DD3 - great social life with other young families, a house with lots of space (but mostly hand me down furniture!)so we were forever having people to stay and although we never had any money, I was doing freelance cooking so meeting some really unusual people, like David and Debbie Owen and working in some places I would never otherwise have seen - the Reform Club and the cottage at Cliveden as 2 instances!

Travelling round Europe with a tent in a MORRIS 1000 Traveller each summer during student years with an endless supply of packet soup, Dunhill cigarettes [smoking wasn't bad for you then wink] and cheap wine.

to the time 4 years ago before my daughter cut me out of her life, maybe I could have done something to prevent it?

I never knew how lucky I was with my first grand daughter, how could it all have gone so bad?

1968 - I was 27, young and free, great job, living in wonderful place (Kenya) with perfect climate, having fantastic holidays and good social life. Still had lots to look forward to.

Ariadne Sun 13-Jan-13 20:44:43

cheelu Sun 13-Jan-13 21:03:05

We are lucky to have had happy times though...

cheelu Sun 13-Jan-13 21:13:07

celebgran, I am so sorry that your daughter has cut you out of her life, my sons might try that but I would just be knocking on their door, not having that, after all the years of taking care of them, feeding them, staying up all night with them, making sacrafices and then they cut you out, no not right at all, Is there anything you can do to resolve things x x

cheelu Sun 13-Jan-13 21:14:42

celebgran..and dont blame yourself because it always takes two to make an arguement..

Nelliemoser Mon 14-Jan-13 10:08:46

When my children were small, things seem to have gone downhill after that.
