I had to phone Sotherbys today for DH as he has a watch that he wanted valued. I put on my best calm voice as I wanted to sound, well what did I want to sound,, I think just calm really,,, but anyway they were so lovely and helpful, they really were, well at the end of the day this is there business and if you are sitting on a fortune they want to know about it--but it was a very pleasant experience... The watch was not worth enough for us to retire ha ha ... but he who dares!!

Cheelu I took a small oil painting to Sotheby's for valuation, having already spent the money in my head grin.

Needless to say it wasn't worth very much so no cash in the attic for me!

What fun cheelu. I think its a common perception that realy grand companies are stad offish. Its more likely to be the mid-range companies who THINK they are grand that have the attitudes. We had to use a rather posh Estate agents to sell FIL's home and they were excellent. Having had the good fortune to dine in a few Michelin starred places I can honestly say they really make anyone feel welcome and treat you with calm but welcoming professionalism.
