Just clutching at straws here, Anyone happen to be travelling to Inverness area around 8 - 9 August. I have a ticket for my Runrig's 40th Anniversary party near Inverness on the 10th but the person I was travelling with has had to drop out due to family problems.

Just being very very hopeful grin

Hello Flowerofthewest, how nice that you are coming to Inverness, I live there and I'm sure you will manage to get to Inverness somehow. Transport links are quite good as long as you book well in advance.
How about a meet up while you are here. I,m very lonely up here.
Let me know how your arrangements are going and if I can be of any help.

Am looking at flights at the moment, will check cheap trains (my preference) on 16th which is the time to book advance tickets.

Do you have a senior rail card? They make a big difference to rail travel costs. I have done the train journey from Crewe to Inverness a couple of times recently. The train journey was far easier and more relaxing than driving.

I don't drive at all Nellie and I feel I don't use the train enough to justify buying a railcard. Will consider it tho. I love train journeys and have travelled from Herts to Scotland for gigs a few times. Think I might just do this just for Runrig gigs. smile

Flower I drive a lot where trains are not practical, but it could only take one long journey to save the cost of your rail card. It gives you about a third off.

I have taken days out to Manchester, Chester, Liverpool and North Wales because I have a rail card.

A senior rail card would certainly pay for itself in one return journey to Inverness!

If you have £14 in Tesco points, you can get a £28 railcard with them, which means it pays for itself even faster.

Our local council gives a 20% discount on a senior railcard (providing you have a bus pass ) I have been to get mine today .They give you a voucher which you pay for and which you then take to the train station to exchange for the railcard .Very simple. It cost me £22 40 so it is worth enquiring from your local council. It saves creating a long queue at the station too.

NB Senior railcards go up to £30 on Sunday next. sad

Thanks for tips guys. As it turns out a good friend of mine has just rung when hearing I was camping and has offered me a share in her B and B which she booked as soon as date was announced. and a lift back. She is holidaying for the first week on way up but at least it saves me booking two tickets. Yaaayyyyy~!!! as the teenagers say.

Thistle have PM's you again. hugs for everything. xx

Not sure, I am a bit of an ageing Rock Chick. Always hanging over the barrier and first in queue. I used to (15 years ago now) see these two much older women who sat on camping chairs with a hip flask between them in the front of the queue. I remember one of them running to the barrier, slipping and slid on her tummy to end up at the barrier. I thought then, that will be me one day. Now it is!!!! [confused) grin#

If I can't make Inverness for coffee Thistle as I will be with Anna and she is the driver !!!! maybe you could meet for a chat while I am queuing grin will PM you xxx

A few years ago when we were oop north the S.O. put a couple of chairs and a flask in the car so we could sit and have a drink somewhere. We still take a flask with us but I refused to ever sit by the side of the road on a fold up chair every again blush.
