Days out

I don't live anywhere near Manchester rojon, but if you both have bus passes, then the world's your oyster! (well, maybe not the world but at least a few miles round Manchester). Why not take a look at some of the local bus timetables online, decide where you want to go - and, well...go for it girl! Most of the buses, where I live anyway, are especially adapted for folk who have to use wheelchairs to get about. From what I remember (many, many moons ago , I confess) about Manchester, is that there's a lot of beautiful countryside not far out (Hadrians Wall springs to mind) take a picnic - and enjoy

Goose - Hadrian's Wall? Not really a day out from Manchester! However, there is beautiful countryside in the Peak District. Not sure how much of it is accessible by bus. rojon, if you want to see a beautiful old house in a pleasant park and accessible by bus, you could spend some time in Bramhall Park and have a look at the Hall. Lyme Park is also on bus routes, but it's quite a long walk from the A6. Or how about a day out in Chester?

Good idea, GA. the Buxton Festival is on this month and there might be some tickets still available for shows. I'm going to a chamber concert next Sunday.

How about a ride up onto the moors near Rochdale, and have a meal and a drink at Owd Betts? And enjoy the scenery whilst you`re doing it.

Buxton is lovely. When we lived in Manchester we used to go to North Wales a lot. Someone recommended Port Sunlight to mea while back but I think that's more Liverpool way? [geography not my strong point].

I was going back years ago, when I was about 20, and have memories of staying in Ashton under Lyne and catching a bus from there to somewhere in the middle of nowhere (my vague memories of it now is that is was near Hadrians Wall, but my memory and geography are awful:-( Never mind! the message is 'have bus pass, will travel', anywhere to where to sunrise meets to sunset:-)

Port Sunlight is on the Wirral and well worth a visit but not sure how accessible from Manchester .

Posted twice sorry. I was thinking along the lines of Chester as lots of seating. Done lots of bus riding in previous years to Buxton and Macclesfield. Was thinking of getting bus to Rochdale then on to Halifax. Anyone been there recently who can suggest destinations there? They must be on a bus route though. Bramhall Park sounds a possibility. We both worked in Port Sunlight when we were youngsters but interesting for anyone who doesn't know it. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Hi if going to Halifax the Piece Hall and Shibden Park are worth a visit. Fascinating story about the lady who developed Shibden hall, Anne Lister. She was a diarist, traveller, industrialist and had a very public lesbian relationship around 1791. Some of her diaries were written in code as they were so graphic and the council would not allow them to be published until the 1970s.
