Do you know the price of a loaf of bread?

Charleygirl Tue 01-Oct-13 13:56:30

Yes, £1.45

glammanana Tue 01-Oct-13 13:56:56

Would you like a large one or a small one or maybe one from our local bakery I know the price of them all.wink

Anne58 Tue 01-Oct-13 13:58:09

I buy thick white sliced Hovis for making toast, less than £1 in Lidl.

bluebell Tue 01-Oct-13 13:59:01

FGS - a bread maker!! We make ours using the Kenwood dough hook!

Ana Tue 01-Oct-13 14:00:10

It's like that hoary old question "Do you know the price of a pint of milk?". Depends what type of milk, where you buy it from etc.

vampirequeen Tue 01-Oct-13 14:00:56

white sliced Hovis £1

Hovis seven seeds £1.57

glammanana Tue 01-Oct-13 14:05:42

Beat you there vampire Hovis 7 seeds £1.35 by me.grin

kittylester Tue 01-Oct-13 14:07:10

Gluten free - approx £2+ for small, funny tasting stuff. sad

Ana Tue 01-Oct-13 14:07:13

I bet he knew the price of a litre of petrol!

Riverwalk Tue 01-Oct-13 14:08:43

Glam you're in the catering business so I'd expect you to know!

I suppose I should have asked does your DH, OH, (i.e. male) know the price of a loaf grin

baubles Tue 01-Oct-13 14:43:07

No blush

baubles Tue 01-Oct-13 14:44:40

My excuse is that I don't buy bread all that often, OH sometimes buys a loaf of some sort from a bakery near his office.

Daisyanswerdo Tue 01-Oct-13 14:47:40

Please can anyone tell me what it is that 'they' put in brown loaves that gives them a strange bitter-sweet taste and smell? I just don't like it. I don't think brown/wholemeal loaves in the past had this additive.

MiceElf Tue 01-Oct-13 15:11:09

Daisy, it's vinegar! Disgusting. Make your own. A million times better. And much cheaper smile

MrsSB Tue 01-Oct-13 15:21:04

No idea. I make all my own bread, no bread machine, just a dough hook on the mixer. That way I know exactly what is in it.

janthea Tue 01-Oct-13 15:25:21

I don't notice the price of bread, as I very seldom buy it. I make my own in a breadmaker! Sorry ladies, but I love my breadmaker. Kneading dough makes my wrists hurt - arthritis!

Milk? You can get two large Cravendale from Waitrose for £3.

Ana Tue 01-Oct-13 15:39:15

Come on, Riverwalk - get to the point! grin

Riverwalk Tue 01-Oct-13 15:46:37

Ana the point is not many men would know the price of a loaf of bread!

Ana Tue 01-Oct-13 15:55:38

Quite! Nor the price of a pint of milk. You'd think MPs would have the nous to swot up on these things before being interviewed on the economy, though...

Ana Tue 01-Oct-13 15:58:23

(And Mayors...)

annodomini Tue 01-Oct-13 16:18:48

I don't use much but I buy it from Waitrose when they have reduced loaves at weekends - often for half of the original price or less. Usually buy wholemeal or multigrain.

Daisyanswerdo Tue 01-Oct-13 16:24:01

Thanks MiceElf. I have got a breadmaker and do make my own and certainly don't put vinegar in! It must be my imagination that sometimes I think my wholemeal bread has the same 'shop' taste.

Riverwalk Tue 01-Oct-13 16:29:41

Ana I doubt if Bojo knows the price of anything!

My point was that I don't think that there's any political capital to be made from the fact that Cameron didn't know the price of a loaf - I'm sure Milliband didn't either.

I bet they all do now! grin

Ana Tue 01-Oct-13 16:34:40

I agree.

To me, nothing will ever beat Nick Clegg thinking the basic state pension was "about £30..." grin
