Luke is 18mths old, travels in my car in a forward facing car seat. He's still at the stage of throwing things about, so what toys can I but to give him something to do? (without it hitting me in the back of the head!) the Cosatto seat doesn't have the sort of structure to clip the kind of things that go across a pushchair

You need things that can be attached with a bit of elastic (short enough not to reach you if thrown, or to get him tangled up in) to a nearby point. Or soft enough not to crack your skull!

You can get a pretend steering wheel with all sorts of bells and whistles - they are fun.

Little cloth books with mirror, cloth dolly. I give my grandchildren those 'desk type' toy computers there to big to throw and when their bored they just slide on the floor. But mostly I do the "oh look, a lorry a bus a policeman plus let's go left, right, and sing silly songs. I know how fraught these journeys can sometimes be so I will be interested to see others suggestions. I travel many short journeys but the occasional 3 to 5 hour journey.

I must be lucky, 19mth old is happy to just look out the window or if the journey is more than 15mins more often than not, sleep !

We can get a good hour out of a nursery rhyme cd, then they've had steering wheels, books, activity teddies and things others have suggested here. Last week a lot of amusement was gained from popping and unpopping a bandana bib, so a Christmas present toy called Dress Me Kitty has been bought - there are buttons, zips, poppers, Velcro, shoes to unlace etc. All helps to keep them occupied.
