None of my children came to any harm from it. Just spray it on a clean cloth and rub gently until it loosens the tar. Obviously you would want to wash it afterwards. Anyway, it worked for us. Even used it to get tar off their feet. Clearly I was a dreadful mother
Brighton beach in the forties and fifties was notorious for the lumps of tar stuck to the pebbles. Rubbing with fat was the solution, followed by a hot wash - in those days it was in the sink with a bar of soap and a scrubbing brush.
