Husbands, grandads, brothers, sons, grandsons...they're a tough crowd to buy for aren't they?

We'd love to know what you're planning on buying your DH this Christmas so we can pinch your ideas and if you think it's the present he really wants to find under the tree on Christmas morning.

Complete the sentence,

"All he wants for Christmas is..."

a new sound bar and a John Frissell CD!

I shall keep an eye on this thread as I'm not competent enough to buy a sound bar confused and pne Cd isn't very much really is it!

Clean water and sanitation all over the world for those who have none. Simple.

We do not buy each other presents as such just a Xmas tree present and that is a box of handkerchiefs ( yes I know) but they are a joke to hide an ITunes card.
Mind you the OH really needs some new handkerchiefs.

KL, soundbars are a minefield, there are so many options. I must have looked 20 or so before choosing the one we have. You do tend to get what you pay for, cheap ones are little better than the built in speakers. You also need to know how you are going to mount them.
I ended up with a Sony Soundbase that our sony TV sits on top of. I could not find a sound bar that I could mount neatly. Very pleased with the sound.

Busily knitting a sweater in secret (VERY HARD!) Good reminder because DH does need new handkerchiefs Brendawymms grin

pompa, we already have a Samsung to go with the Samsung TV but DH keeps chuntering about it. He and one of his best mates can talk for England on the various settings. We were all ready to buy a really expensive Bose one as we like the Bose radio thingy we have, but Which said no! It's driving me bonkers!

ninathenana Wed 26-Nov-14 16:42:55

kitty I confess I wouldn't know a soundbar if it bit me on the rear grin

ninathenana Wed 26-Nov-14 16:45:28

I've bought DH the latest Kindle fire. Which was a bargain half price [ smile]
I may just swap it for the one he bought me last year, as he only wants/ knows how to play games on mine.

kittylester Wed 26-Nov-14 16:47:28

Keep it that way nina [yawn emoticon]

The theory is that, because the latest Tvs are so slim, the sound is not good so you need a sound bar (cunning ploy!) to maximise the sound! Possibly!! grin

suzied Wed 26-Nov-14 17:56:54

Sonos have a great soundbar sound system you control from your phone/ ipad

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 26-Nov-14 18:23:36

Grandsons aren't "a tough crowd to buy for". They're really easy!

Husbands though! [shrug]

He's a bah humbug sort. Best ignored really.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 26-Nov-14 18:24:18

Perhaps a packet of chocolate brazil nuts. smile

rosequartz Wed 26-Nov-14 18:27:33

For my husband I have bought ... a new (cheap) waterproof watch so that he can go windsurfing and lose it in the sea (again!) and not feel too guilty.

Our family have agreed to set a £10 per present limit for adults this year, even for significant others. I've managed to buy a little stocking's worth of small gifts for the girls for that, no problem, but am at a loss as to what to get the menfolk. Possibly a cd and socks for the DH [another yawn emoticon]. TBH that's usually what he asks for anyway.

rosesarered Wed 26-Nov-14 21:57:02

A cd, a dvd, and a scarf [DH]
a cd, dvd, and chocs [son]
a cd, dvd, and chocs [son-in-law] you begin to see a theme here,
a cd, pyjamas, an annual, chocs, for DGS 1
books, a jumper, and choc coins for DGS 2 all done and wrapped.

DBH said he wanted a new red ski jacket. So I bought one a while back when it was in a sale.

Then last week he announced that he wants a new and very expensive tablet, and could I please give him money and inform the rest of the family that that is what he wanted? Too late - they have all bought him something already.

Vouchers have been requested by DS2 and his partner as they are planning to move house in the coming year - about time too - and they will want to buy items for their new surroundings. What to get the other DS and DiL without repeating the scarves, earrings (her, not him), jumpers, shirts.... of previous years!

hummingbird Wed 26-Nov-14 23:21:13

Jumper, socks and Alfie Boe's CD. What do get the man that wants nothing???

grannyactivist Thu 27-Nov-14 08:14:09

I asked one of my sons to choose a wishlist from several weblinks I sent him - and threatened him with buying him cuddly toys for Christmas if he didn't comply. He did choose as requested, but then turned the tables by threatening the same to me. Ha!grin Hoist by my own petard.
His list?
Items of sports clothing (he's a rower) and a good biography of Admiral Nelson.

Coolgran65 Thu 27-Nov-14 09:03:55

For 4 sons plus wives gorgeous dressing gowns (Janet Regar for £20 for ladies and Bench £20 for men) with coordinated Totes slipper socks at £7 each. All Tkmaxx. Janet Regar items had an original tag of £100.

Really stuck for DH.

Oldgreymare Thu 27-Nov-14 10:03:29

Nowt!
He has a selection of 'thoughtful' presies given by DS1 that he doesn't use ( a juicer, i-tunes, magazine subscription etc).
Anyway we need a new cooker/hob so it will be a joint presie!

Teetime Thu 27-Nov-14 11:16:31

I have bought Mr Teetime sound wireless headphones (Samsung) and some clothes which he doesn't like me buying but he would be naked if I didn't.

kitty we held off buying a soundbar as we couldn't find one you could plug the DVD player in (at a price we wanted to pay)and as we already had a surround sound system and a small living room (DD's sound bar blasts you out of the room). I'm sure the nice folk at B & O will sort you out though - lovely systems but frightening prices.

Lapwing Thu 27-Nov-14 14:52:30

I bought DH 10 trees - but will probably buy him a CD and some other small things for the big day.
