Am I alone in being irritated by the regular updates on Radio 4 news on the latest sex accusations against Bill Cosby?

He's on a tour of N America and there are demos outside the theatres - this morning we were treated to a piece from Toronto interviewing fans and demonstrators; previously there have been the same from other locations.

The Cosby Show was popular here in the 80s but he's hardly a national treasure in the UK or even that well known on this side of the pond. I can understand the odd mention here and there, or if he was charged, but this regular update in prime-time news? confused

Why does the BBC, and others, think we are interested?

I am certainly not interested.

I'm not interested in it either other than as a piece of foreign news. The media are going OTT because it has the two subjects it loves......celebrity and sex.

It's newsworthy in the context of changing attitudes to sexual abuse and acceptance that celebrity seems to give some abusers a playground blush If it serves as a warning that sex offenders look like the rest of us, are often entertaining, charming and even likeable then maybe that's not entirely a bad thing.

I know there hasn't been a criminal conviction but so many women making similar allegations ….
